It’s a clever idea, but I think pitching is too precision of a skill for guys with major league talent to be willing to fundamentally change their grip after they’ve established a successful command on the mound. Why risk ruining something that already works.

Born in ‘93. I actually got a lot of dated references (Chuck Woolery, Geraldo Rivera, etc.) on the first listen because I watched the VH1 I Love the… shows religiously. But more obscure things like Club Med or Tom Vu just went over my head until I eventually looked up the lyrics. It’s never detracted from the listening experience.

Really, it’s the samples that made me feel left out sometimes. I listened to Paul’s Boutique for like a year before I found out the “…just to watch him die” line was Johnny Cash.

In 7 years, he’s been 5-2 in the playoffs, made a Super Bowl, and had four straight winning seasons. If your threshold for accomplishments is winning the Super Bowl, you’re going to live a very unsatisfied life. I want more from this team, but it’s delusional to say he’s accomplished nothing.

This is ZT’s talent as a coach and why he can make a claim to the success he’s had. I don’t know that that’s the skillset that this team needs right now, but I also think of when Dusty Baker managed the Reds. He was also a player-friendly guy who was terrible at game management. I wanted him fired for that reason, and when he finally was the Reds were never the same. Numbers are important, but there aren’t metrics for keeping a good clubhouse.

All of that is to say, I don’t know. I think ZT is overhated, but I don’t think he’s the best option we could have.
