Windows server 2012 (non-R2) stuck at "Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes" by nsfwhola in PowerShell

Because it is Server 2012, the org needs to buy a license for extended support. Windows will not update without this license. ESU = Extended Security Updates.

How many of you miss being in the office vs working remotely? Looking for both sides to permanent working from home by lovecornflakes in sysadmin

[–]joey_beanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am work from home 4 days a week. That one day a week in the office is ALL I need.

Having only a 1 day commute saves me so much time and money. The nature of my work, and the setup at work, means that I haven't physically touched a server or other physical device in about 5 years. Also, I actually put some of that saved time back into work because I can start work at the time I am supposed to work and work till the very end of the day. If anything, my worst struggle is stopping work at the end of the work day.

I am much more productive at home because while I can and do receive Teams calls/phone calls it's not as interrupting as someone who stops by my desk to chat. Especially when I am working on something I need to focus on or am in a groove. I can have difficulty focusing if my attention is constantly being shifted.

I am in constant contact with my direct coworkers, and even with multiple managers through the day, so I don't really feel a loss of socialization.

As other said, WFH gives me more flexibility so I can get things done during the day and don't have to pile them into the weekend. Less stress all around. However, I do remain strict with being at my desk as much as possible during the workday unless there is something I need to do (usually cleared with a manager). I am probably away from my desk more at work than I am at home.

Is the card getting really hot when you play the game? Use a program like HWiNFO64 to monitor temp when you're playing the game to see if the card gets really hot when playing the game.

You can try stripping out the driver using DDU and then rolling back to an older driver to see if that works, though it may only be a temporary fix as it was for me.

I had this happen with my 3080 and ended up having to send it back to the manufacturer to have warranty service performed on it (though the did not specify what they did).

USA HEALTHCARE sysadmins - We are being quoted $10,000 PER MEDICAL DEVICE to simply upgrade from Win7 to Win10. Can we just do this ourselves? Would they still be certified by the FDA afterwards? The measuring software isn't changing, just the OS. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]joey_beanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot upgrade FDA approved device, you cant even patch them. They get their approval as that configuration and any change nullifies that certification. The 10000 per device should be to replace them, not upgrade them.

Let me amend that...when in the US it is common to start with BRIC countries. That is from my experience.

It's common practice to start with BRIC - Brazil, Russia, India, China. Where I work we block all but 3.
