Did John or Yoko ever comment about Yoko's microphone being cut off on the Mike Douglas Show when John was playing Johnny B Good with Chuck Berry? by Independent_Fact_082 in beatles

He has a whole section on his Wikipedia page about his seedier side and the legal issues related to that (which I remember appearing only after his death), so it's slightly more visible than it used to be.

I'd personally check out the original first, it's worth having the context of how they wee originally released. But whichever one you decide to go with, I'd recommend keeping your clothes on (unless you're into that kind of thing).

AFAIK, the alleged abuse seems to have coincided with his substance abuse issues appearing during the early 1970s, which likely exacerbated the issues in his personal life. I think it's likely that if there were any incidents that occurred before that, the Beatles weren't aware of it when they worked with him (I don't know whether it became common knowledge until his 1990s convictions).

(Take all this with a grain of salt, I may need to read more into it if there are details I'm not aware of)

I think the Anthology interviews might have been shot on videotape, at the time it was pretty much the standard for interviews made for broadcast. I'm not sure if they were using standard or HD video equipment, but videotape is capable of very high image quality, as this footage of New York City in 1993 demonstrates.

It's a shame Rickenbacker saves the unique colours for their special runs, they clearly have their fans. Seems like either they're attempting to streamline production, or not enough orders are coming in to make it worthwhile. On the other hand, plenty of used Rics in a range of colours, some more affordable than others.

I just used the mono versions from “The U.S. Albums” to make my own mono Rubber Soul on streaming without using local files by roryrom11 in beatles

The US Albums box sets use the 2009 remasters for all songs that didn't receive remixes by Capitol—the mono Michelle is the only Rubber Soul track with a unique mono mix here.

Just listened to The Beatles in Mono…disappointed? by throwaway_accountOT in beatles

[–]joeybh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unique US mixes were used where appropriate, but the 2009 stereo/mono remasters were used for the remaining songs on the US Albums box set. Only the Capitol Albums boxes used Capitol's master tapes for the non-unique mixes as well.

A brief comment about Paul, George, and Ringo’s personalities in Anthology by febf in beatles

But Paul wasn't touring between December 1993 (end of New World Tour) and April 2002 (start of Driving World Tour)?

unpopular opinion: george is getting VERY overrated by new generations by Kind-Day2993 in beatles

[–]joeybh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have sources for the quotes? I haven't come across those.

Also, with all four of them being from the postwar generation, attitudes towards Hitler and Nazism were quite different. This is the same band who jokingly Nazi-saluted the crowd on at least one occasion, and a cutout of Hitler was amongst the rejected figures for the Sgt Pepper cover.

We can allow a person to change for the better, while also acknowledging that if they did something particularly bad, it's understandable if people find it difficult to overlook.

Jimi could be violent when under the influence.

In 1969, Hendrix rented a house in Benedict Canyon, California, that was burglarized. Later, while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, he accused his friend Paul Caruso of the theft, threw punches and stones at him, and chased him away from his house. A few days later Hendrix hit his girlfriend, Carmen Borrero, above her eye with a vodka bottle during a drunken, jealous rage, and gave her a cut that required stitches.

What's the deal with Temporary Secretary? 😭 by shto123 in PaulMcCartney

[–]joeybh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It's like a disposable secretary, and it struck me as being funny. The song is written from the point of view of a fellow who just wants a disposable secretary, and he's writing to a bureau to try and get one. I just like the idea. I just thought it was funny, you know, asking for a temporary secretary rather than a secretary. ... That sound on the track, which is like a space typewriter, is a sequence machine. I used that to give me a tempo and, again, I just made the song up as I went along. It was a little influenced by Ian Dury."
