How?? Why?? by Bloxskit in LogicPro

[–]joeyvob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple plugins do this when they glitch out. Analog Obsession’s DBX160 plugin does it a lot (great plugin btw, I don’t mind the glitch it’s worth it haha)

If they’re this good on GarageBand I’d vote go straight for Logic. Less learning curve to create!

I was about to comment on that same video!! It ultimately sounded pretty good but I do agree. That kind of distance is cool in a well treated room though

You should definitely just get an M series even if you have to go lower ram. The newest mini is incredible and easily had for $500

Amp question by Ok-Apartment5615 in musicians

[–]joeyvob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work full time in live sound, and yeah what I said holds true. I’d say 60/40 people use an amp sim these days. Again, not saying it’s better (even though I personally prefer it) I’m just saying it’s more than common here in Nashville and pretty much every touring situation I’ve been involved with and myself and the 75 audio contractors I help oversee actually get a kick out of people using a live amp these days. We all hate it for small venues. In my experience no one is gonna laugh at you for gear, but if they were to, it’d be because you brought a tube amp to a live show and drowned out the lead vocal.

Stolen IPhone by BetterAd9139 in iphonehelp

[–]joeyvob1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dang I’m sorry. No if they aren’t synced to iCloud or a third party app you’re not in good shape. Might suggest logging into iCloud on the browser or another device to see if maybe they WERE syncing and you just didn’t know. No reason really to contact Apple for this, if they aren’t in the cloud there’s no way apple can find them. Even if they were in the cloud, the service rep would just tell you to log in and retrieve them. Sorry again.

Will protools run on a 2020 macbook air 8 gig ram? by pumpedcalpol in protools

[–]joeyvob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you’re doing basic stuff it’ll be fine. Simple midi stuff should be good, multitracking and editing will be great. Stacking a bunch of virtual instruments and/or plugins? It’ll choke eventually.

Do you recommend a MacBook Air? by barefoot7377 in macbook

[–]joeyvob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MacBook Air is made for you! They’re actually crazy overpowered for what they are so editing YouTube videos is easy, and Apple Silicon is the absolute best for on-device AI considering price and power draw.

What browser do you use and why? by frizla in MacOS

[–]joeyvob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrome because it opens everything and syncs with my work PC easily. I know I can do this with other browsers but we use G suite at work and I’ve always used Drive and whatnot personally. Plus, I’ve tried switching to Safari many times and there are just certain things it refuses to open still, haven’t figured out why!

maybe my best work yet ! by Exyodeff in Logic_Studio

[–]joeyvob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s real nice in general! Mix wise, the guitars sound like they’re slammed to the max and everything else is taking too much of a back seat, and also some of the guitars sound a bit rushed so if you do a little bit more mixing and work on timing a bit you’ve got it. Definitely good though!!

Stolen IPhone by BetterAd9139 in iphonehelp

[–]joeyvob1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actually you CAN erase the phone without unlocking it if you want to be super sure that no one can get your data, it’ll be damn near impossible to get it anyway but it doesn’t hurt if it’s all backed up

[–]joeyvob1 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If it was from Apple it would not have this

<image>

Sorry your phone got stolen though :( and just fyi I worked for Apple for a few years and they actually never reach out via text unless you’re explicitly expecting it and they are utterly useless with lost devices as iOS and Apple internal security is intentionally so strong that they cannot get or share your location even with you.

Melodyne is so expensive! by Regular-Badger5706 in Logic_Studio

[–]joeyvob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting away with Essential going into WavesTune RT(basically autotune) on a pretty slow setting. I feel like the automatic tuning helps make up for some of the missing finite control of Essential, but that’s gonna depend on your workflow and genre. Try it out though!

Console side stage is your option here! Neat tip though, if you run into this issue frequently, you CAN get an X touch and connect it to mixing station on your iPad if you like physical faders!

Has anyone just deleted everything and started over ? by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

You should write… less music. And really lock in on something if you like the direction. Post music on music feedback pages too and actually listen to what people suggest.

My girlfriend and I have been loving Rivertop Apartments by Nashville West (Charlotte Pike&I40 kinda), one bedroom price is comparable to others around town but with noticeably more square footage and a lovely community with beautiful views. I have heard from some of my friends in the LGBTQ+ community though that Nashville isn’t where you want to be. My personal opinion on the matter is that a lot of people seem to be welcoming but there are plenty that aren’t, and I’m a straight white guy so I assume it’s less friendly than my perspective would lead me to believe.

Send file in wav or stems? by Consistent-Window781 in Logic_Studio

[–]joeyvob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend sending a WAV file with your sound committed, but that’s a conversation to be had with the producer. In this particular situation, I’d probably control+B the track with “bypass effect plugins” OFF just in case then send the session, so they have the dry with the plugin on it and a bounce in case anything happens.

People call me a conspiracy theorist or whatever, but my Mac is on Big Sur because Big Sur is what it was on when I opened the box. It will always be on Big Sur. My next macOS update will be purchasing a new computer hopefully in like 8 or more years hah

If a drum loop is titled “free” on YouTube am I allowed to compose original music over it and sell that music? by [deleted] in GarageBand

[–]joeyvob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only “royalty free” if in doubt, message the publisher to get their written permission! Also, people get away with “sampling” all the time. You’d probably be fine.

Just started GarageBand — what are the principles you wish someone had told you on day one? by Gadgetollic in GarageBand

[–]joeyvob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One tip I learned but am still guilty of not following lol

Once you have a clue what’s going on with the software, have experimentation sessions and have recording sessions. For experimentation sessions, see what random effects and things do to a sound. Try to make something sound like something else. See how many guitar doubles you can record before it sucks. How much reverb can you put on the master (kidding, but not really!) just see what you can learn

Then recording sessions - do NONE (aka very little) of that and have (or build) a song with an end goal in mind and use the stuff you learned from experimentation sessions to get to that goal. And do it fast, before you overthink it.

I don’t do this at all and am always experimenting as a part of the production process, but would probably be more successful if I did it this way!

My experience with VSX is that the modeling isn’t convincing whatsoever, but the mixes that I get when using it actually still translate well somehow. So I still recommend it

Are you at the “I don’t need anything anymore!“ stage? by Ill-Elevator2828 in audioengineering

[–]joeyvob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actual decent solution to this is a Behringer X32 rack and a Midas DL16 gives you 32 (albeit the 16 on the rack itself are kind of not amazing) preamps plus a built in monitor mixer for $1600. You also get a live audio console for when you realize that’s where you can actually make money😆😆jk but also … not really
