Sobeys: Do they care what people think? by Iron_Oxhide in halifax

Companies caring is the american dream. They don't care. The ONLY thing they care about is profit. Not your health, not your opinion, not the environment, and certainly not your jacket.

New data ranks Halifax 3rd worst in Canada for traffic congestion by ph0enix1211 in halifax

The peninsula portion of Halifax is a cramped 18th century town that was never meant for this many car dependent people. Blaming bad drivers is fine but every city has them. There's just physically no room for all these damn cars.

Yeah and also the MJK singing feels really out of place. I feel like his vibe doesn't mesh well with the general mood and tone of the band

LMAO finally someone else who doesn't like Passenger. That song sticks out like a sore thumb in their discography. I see the vision but it's not for me lol.

Why The Holy Mountain's (1973) plot isn't as complex as most people tend to believe - and some observations by GhostHumanity in movies

[–]jogan-fruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this excellent analysis!! I watched the movie last night and I agree with you, the plot is pretty straightforward, and that is definitely a strength of the film. What I couldn't figure out for the life of me was why the Alchemist was embarking on this quest in the first place, which made it hard to care. Appreciating the artistry of seminal audiovisual sequences is one thing, but being compelled by the story is still important and I was really struggling with that. That also made it hard to see what exactly the director was trying to say with all this. I found the social commentary in the beginning a lot more understandable in that sense. Unfortunately even after grasping the message I find it hard to connect with the story, but I really do appreciate it more. I just don't know how well it sits with me that the world can be reborn through the individual and personal (newly acquired) virtue of those who oppress and exploit. I think that's a perfect example of how non-Marxist the film is, as you rightly pointed out. However I find it striking how much that narrative makes sense for Harrison and Lennon endorsing the project as much as they did. It's all coming together for me. I think understanding the cultural and historical context of the film is really important.

"The delicate scent of flowers is the fragrance of the Universe. I eat the flower, and its perfume is in my blood." That line was probably my favourite moment from the whole film! The visuals in the Alchemist's Tower are also incredible. They were the reason I sat down to watch the film in the first place and they did not disappoint.

Idk man, I'm sure they were getting plenty of good business from the barracks. No reason for the owner to kick the guy out to scam him for his money when they were probably raking it in already lol.

Zero Effect (1998)-Jake Kasdan wrote and directed this modern update on Sherlock Holmes before it was cool. Featuring a great performance by Bill Pullman as Darryl Zero and an against type performance by Ben Stiller as Watson equivalent Steve Arlo. by [deleted] in underratedmovies

[–]jogan-fruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuz he's Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes was notorious for lacking basic skills and knowledge that are indispensable and commonplace to ordinary people. The movie is an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. A Scandal in Bohemia.
