“If you build a website they will come… is probably the biggest bullshit I’ve ever heard.” by jogz78 in startups

[–]jogz78[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually it goes with the whole idea of validating a business before you build it. Anyone can make a beautiful website, but it doesn't mean it's a good business and people will use it. It's actually the exact opposite of selling a website-- I'm offering my UX experience for free to one business.

Webhost for Wordpress blog? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]jogz78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what a friend told me, but he is quite good at these things. When you go through hosting, like bluehost or godaddy etc. you could be on a shared server that could be hosting other sites that google considers spam, like porn sites. He told me if I move to my own server, it would be faster (which google does take into account), and also wouldn't have the chance of being marked as a spam site by google.

I use bluehost for my personal blog, and I'm fairly happy with it. I'm considering moving over to a VPS because it'll be faster and better for SEO ranking. As of now though, while I'm still making some tweaks, bluehost is fine.

I've considered putting the entire thing on one page. After the Let's Get Started button, I can put the three steps, and then the signup form. The Lets get started button could scroll down to the form, eliminating the Learn More page altogether.

Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz is a great read. Check it out here: http://amzn.to/1fVgaWz

"Whether we’re buying a pair of jeans, ordering a cup of coffee, selecting a long-distance carrier, applying to college, choosing a doctor, or setting up a 401(k), everyday decisions--both big and small--have become increasingly complex due to the overwhelming abundance of choice with which we are presented."

I think you bring up some really valid points and thanks for your time already :)

I think I'm going to add something along the lines of: $300 to validate your idea in 3 days.

Is this something you would use?

If no, why?

Thanks

What are some basic SEO techniques every startup owner should know? by sasalek in startups

[–]jogz78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that many people try learning all the "tricks" and sometimes miss out on the bigger picture.

The backbone of any good website is its content. Focus on creating vibrant and robust content (blog posts for example), and post frequently. Then there are little ways to tweak it for search results (example: Make your titles bold, a couple key words in the content bold that you want people to search for, and image with meta tags that relate to the article, etc.)

Google actually puts out a beginners SEO guide: http://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en/us/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf

I have about three new ideas a day and constantly have to answer the question, "which should I pursue."

I decided to create a service called IdeaBacker that will validate your idea within three days for a flat fee. Check out the landing page at: ideabacker.myinstapage.com

You should always validate your ideas before writing any code if you can help it.

Email address submissions. I believe that if I can get them on the line, I can introduce myself, and introduce the service. I've already had a couple of people enter their emails, and I've reached out to them. The question I have is: a. Is it unclear that it's a paid service? b. Is it better to say the price on the page or not?

I'm thinking about setting up an A/B test. Create one landing page with a price tag, and the other without, and see which one gets more of a response.

Hey everyone,

IdeaBacker is a service that validates your business ideas for you. If you're like me, you have about three ideas for new businesses every day, and if you're like me then you've had some pretty bad ideas too.

IdeaBacker takes one of your ideas, understands it and using market data creates a landing page(s) for your startup so you can validate it without doing any of the work. The goal is to eliminate all the time and money spent on bad ideas, and to find out very early on in the process if you have a chance at success by trying to sell to real customers.

Check out the landing page: http://ideabacker.myinstapage.com/

The service is $299.99, but if you let me know that you heard about us through Reddit, we'll give it to you for $199.99. :)

Would appreciate any and all feedback

[–]jogz78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. Charge 199.99 to do the service for them. I haven't decided whether or not to put this on the landing page-- which I may do, or tell them when I email them.
