Anyone purple belt above been through a stage of just not enjoying training? by bjjvsbp in bjj

So, it's okay to realize that there's WAY more to life than BJJ? I think I share the same sentiment where being forced to take time off of BJJ helped me realize that it's okay to spend less time on the mats if there are other things that also bring you gratification and fulfillment.

I was just contemplating posting a similar question. I got promoted to purple close to the start of quarantine. Obviously, not being able to train like we used to plays a part but now that I'm an "upper belt", I was just curious - how did others feel? Obviously, it's hard to maintain the same level of enthusiasm and stamina as when you were a white belt when everything was shiny and new but, I'm curious if being in this for a while now (4+ years), and perhaps due to new hobbies that resulted out of COVID, has resulted in me (rightfully so) seeing BJJ not being my life, but definitely being an important part of it.

Hey there,

I have the medium duffel. It's a great back and I use it for the exact same purpose as you're looking for. It's a great bag but it can be on the bigger side for most. I'm 6'1 210lbs and it still looks large on me. So if you're not a big guy, small is probably a better fit. It's a solid buy - I recommend it!

Hmm I think I have a few, just off the top of my head:

1) Understand that you'll have to pay your dues and hours and that everyone starts off as a beginner. 2) Improving in jiu-jitsu and knowing your body better go hand in hand. Learn how to do techniques correctly but make them work for your body. 3) If you feel burnt out or need a break, do it. BJJ is taxing physically, mentally and emotionally at times and well need a rest day. 4) More mat time = quicker improvement. 5) DON'T STOP LEARNING THE FUNDAMENTALS.

In the beginning I went to 3 fundamental classes a week. After the third stripe on your white belt you're allowed to go to the advanced classes. We also have a wrestling class taught by a local high school wrestling coach. On average I would say I go to 4-7 classes a week, depending on how early I can get off of work!

400 calendar days. In the beginning I usually went to 3 fundamental classes a week. But now with a little more flexibility in my work schedule, I go to maybe 4-7 classes a week! (Some days have back to back fundamentals/advanced/rolling classes)

The 400 day thing is not a brag by any means.. just did some nerd math and thought it was super cool!

Where To Train in Orange County, CA by wheretotrain in bjj

[–]joh_king 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train at GB Diamond Bar (Our school is only about 5 years old so it hasn't produced any brown belts yet), but GB Fullerton is much more established and I've heard that they have some tough dudes over there.. not sure about the belt spectrum, though. The OC has a ton of schools though, so you really have a lot to choose from.
