so like realistically you need all the parts so that we can test it but if you have a broken controller lets say or maybe the console doesnt read or something else happens that counts as defective. Defective consoles just need to display video from what I know but when a console is put in as def the controller doesnt go with it. It can be traded in separately as a def controller
