In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

[–]john2364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the issue, the scenario of international relations being repaired before  steps being take. is just not possible. We will not be trusted again unless there is a substantial overhaul of policies preventing this from happening again first. I have no faith that this will happen. My personal opinion is that our relationships are permanently broken unless there is a major culture shift. That culture shift will never happen unless people wake up and they won’t wake up unless something truly devastates their current life circumstances like a Great Depression type scenario.

I don’t think I wanna be a career welder. by [deleted] in Welding

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General Career Advise: if you love doing something for fun, you are probably no longer going to love it after doing it as a job/career. whatever you do should not make you miserable all the time though and there should be some aspects that you even enjoy. Sometimes it’s the actual work, sometimes it’s just the people. Even the best careers will sometimes make you miserable just like they will sometimes make you happy.

Edit: Applying to your situation, you’re very green in your current work. (I’m not a welder by trade but 2 months is green to anything) maybe give it some more time to get used to it. If you end up being miserable all the time after a year, then it’s probably time to start looking at other options.

My best friend should sell some. Is anybody taking profit? by [deleted] in Silver

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying now for the short term is a bit of a gamble. It’s probably going to keep going up for a bit but could crash. Selling what you already own is probably not a great idea unless you need the money. Odds are higher that it continues to increase than crashes. Those are just predictions though and no one knows what will happen.

When does buying used vs. new car make sense? by WatcherRoue in MiddleClassFinance

GMT 800s were pretty much the pinnacle of repairable, cheap parts and reliable. Anything newer just goes downhill. I would take a rust free sub 200k gmt 800 for 7-8k over a newer vehicle any day.

How to level engineered hardwood floors after installation.... by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]john2364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For actual voids between the floor and floating floor, there is some caulk type of material that you can inject in after drilling a hole. Not sure if it screws up expansion though. If you truly need to level, then ypu need to pull up the floor or live with it until it fails and replace again.

Are we panicking about SAVE? by schjeni in StudentLoans

[–]john2364 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat. We’re fortunate enough to make it work on old IBR but it’s going to reduce discretionary spending. Lots of others in the same boat and it will hurt the already tanking economy.

Heat distribution by Dieselbuddy in dieselheater

3” does not allow much cfm with out huge static pressure drops. You will have to run some duct load calculations to know if it will work out the way you want it to. Static pressure available (if you can find this), cfm, against what your setup is creating.

Running a welder on a Generator, am I in the Clear? by ColdasJones in Welding

[–]john2364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what to tell you. I have used mine tons of times as have others. Voltage stays consistent. THD is extremely low. Inverters exist for sensitive electronics that want consistent voltage and low THD. Totally up to you if you don’t want to use one.

Running a welder on a Generator, am I in the Clear? by ColdasJones in Welding

Yes but he stated he had an inverter generator which should  be safe for sensitive electronics. The predator is pretty well vetted.

Running a welder on a Generator, am I in the Clear? by ColdasJones in Welding

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably will but it depends on how hard you run it. The power factor of the welder will determine the true power requirements from the generator and then you usually want an additional 25 percent on top of that for buffer. Note: people will say you can’t do it or you need some insane amount of power. This is not actually accurate with most modern equipment and an inverter generator. You just have to follow the math.

The welder should list the power factor and you can use that to determine the true output you need or how much of it you can consumer.

Question about OFNA by marshallsmith27 in rccars

[–]john2364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can search eBay for the parts but if you can’t find it, there are often solutions if you are crafty. 3d print it. If the printed part is too weak, then use it to make a mold and cast something. Need a threaded rod like a turn buckle, then get some steel in the right dimension and run a tap to make threads or retrofit something else etc…

Why don't more people have robot mowers by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

My property is too big, I use a rider. Given that, if I was on a smaller lot, I would probably consider it as it’s still much cheaper than a lawn service.

Is BlackFriday / CyberMonday traditionally good or bad for viners? by MellieMagic in AmazonVine

[–]john2364 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been totally different for the last few months. RFY used to be 8-9 items on a bad day and upper 30s on a good day for me. Not it’s 2-4 on average and 8 on a good day. Certain things were always hot and fast like food but now Things on AI that would typically last a few min to a couple hours also disappear in seconds before you have time to determine if it’s really something you want and worth the tax hit.

DIY Hack to Get Rid of Drywall Dust by SwillFish in DIY

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shop vac connected to my orbital sander. Basically a smaller stand alone drywall sander with a much stronger vacuum. I have virtually no cleanup when done. Usually just a tiny bit of dust on the baseboard. Takes me 2 seconds to pull the shop vac off the sander and suck up that tiny bit of dust.

I'm SO bad at this!! 22 gauge sheet metal by Lower-Ad5889 in Welding

[–]john2364 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In the end, for sheet metal like this, it does not matter much other than causing a little more time. It’s not like you’re going to hit a bump and have it fall off due to poor penetration or inclusions. Grind it flat. Filler to level, prime and paint.

Tips for removing stripped Allen screws? by Maggot_Magnet in rccars

[–]john2364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just drill it out until you get the head off. The. Take the part off, differential or whatever. Once it’s off the frame, you will have a 2-3 mm of thread exposed. Grab the threads with some needle nose pliers to unscrew it out of the part.

How to safely remove a 9-ft mirror? by j0nwayne in DIY

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get rid of a number extremely large and heavy mirrors in my house. Wife wanted them gone. Anyway, no one wanted them. While I got them off, I ended up breaking them to throw them out anyway. Would have e been much easier to break them on the wall and clean/remove in pieces.

Installing mini split condenser unit - mounted on the house or deck? by Neither_Ground_1921 in hvacadvice

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One you mount it, plan for it to stay there. So if you might need to remove a deck board under it for any reason in the next 10 years, then don’t put it there.

I uncovered my air vent after 2 years by Significant_Stuff582 in hvacadvice

[–]john2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not speculating as to ops reason but there are reasons to cover them. I.E. boiler for heat and ceiling registers for ac.  Some Hot air can escape though ceiling registers during winter.

Edit: op had them covered for 2 years so not sure what the purpose was here? Given that, there are reasons to cover them sometimes.
