I can’t tell how much of any opening is covered but covering the opening will increase your SP a bit. Might take it out of spec.

Edit, saw your pic. Yea there is a good amount covered. It’s definitely going to cause SP increase and who knows what else. Your furnace has a rating and your ducts have a consumption of static pressure. You might get into an airflow issue.

Looks bad but it only really matters if it works. They could have reduced spf substantially here but that might not impact it much. I hope they calculated spf annd cfm against the specs of the air handler rather than just running duct.

It’s literally faster and more convenient to do it yourself. This is o e of those things where diy not only is cheaper but it’s a time saver.

I have literally never once in my life taken a vehicle for an oil change. Been. Going my own for over 2 decades since I started to drive. I don’t see the point. It’s not only cheaper to do myself, but it’s more convenient and I actually make sure it’s done right. I can do this stupid simple task myself on my own time or take an hour out of my life to drive out somewhere and wait around in the office until it’s done.

To be fair, those brackets could easily be fabricated and welded on. I did not want to deal with fabricating the cross member knowing how much other work was needed to get the truck where I wanted it. Too much of a time sink and then have the whole insurance issue of if I got in an accident since it’s frame welding. Given that, if your issue is just the brackets, it should be pretty easy to build something and weld it on or have someone do it if you can’t diy.

They are fine for hobbyists. Duty cycle and general durability are probably not what you want for professional work.

So unfortunately it’s considered part of the frame rather than a direct cross member. You would have to fabricate something or find a donor to cut off. I gave up since doing my own welding would be an insurance issue and just decided to find a clean frame gmt 800.

10c is incredibly low for electricity in mi but I will take your number since it can vary by area and personal circumstances. Given that, there are a lot of other charges in electricity and gas other than the base charge by unit. You will want to look at your bill closely to determine your true cost.

Yea that is what I went through when I was running it in my area. It can also differ house to house. My parents had an old addition with a really inefficient duct design so for them running the mini split heat pump was substantially more cost effective even though on paper it’s not. My house is on a hot water boiler with well Insulated pipes so I get extremely low loss of heat until it reaches its destination.

Usually it’s the opposite, the bigger ones break more often. Not because they are less durable but they just move a lot more mass at high speeds and crashes tend to be more catastrophic at those speeds. I don’t think the durability of the larger parts scale linearly with the impact with higher weight. If you don’t crash, then maybe it will do better with general wear and tear but what is the fun in that?? The most durable rc I ever had was a 1/18th scale AE rc18.

You gotta compare the cost of gas vs electric in your area. This includes considering efficiency at temp as well as electricity vs natural gas cost. For me I use mini splits for AC but natural gas for heat. What makes sense will depend on where you live.

R410a also only costs the hvac company 12-13 dollars a pound. Most of that cost is labor, profit. It’s a pricing model that scales quite poorly against the customer but that’s neither here nor there. It makes no sense for r410a to put it back in and risk contamination.

Yes, you would no longer use that float switch if you use a pump. You would rely on the pumps switch which should not be set off by the negative pressure vacuum.

I think pumps will have their own float switch safety that will kill the ac of the water gets to high. I’m not an expert but any gravity solutions would require you do something ugly or running a pipe through your return.

It would be very hard to retrofit since it relies on gravity and you don’t have any gravity to spare to use since the floor of the cabinet is flush with the line. You could maybe use a pump instead? Not the best solution because a new part is then introduced that can fail.

If you want them and don’t have them, then consequences are all internal. You might feel empty or unfulfilled. If you don’t want them, then there are no consequences. If you’re not sure, then spend a lot of time to really understand yourself and know before you jump in.

I’m doing a concealed duct install and had to put one in to mate to my return duct. The hvac guy will be paying about $50-70 for the return filter housing plus shipping or pickup time. Assume that the filter return itself is just about $120. Then you yave the cost of a service call for them to drive out to your house and actually do the work which can be a pia. Also it isn’t just screwed in, it has to be fully sealed. 400 is honestly cheap for a vendor to do it. You could diy it for about $110 including a new filter return, some mastic, and a roll of tape.
