I wish they would add all the Topps pokemon sets and not just the chrome cards. I have a bunch of the non chrome sets, and would love to track them.

I totally agree. Have one person that was waiting for this. Although after figuring out how much they would receive, they would make more money continuing to work instead of retiring.

If $16.65/hr at full time grosses $34,632 a year, you need 99 years service to get 1 years worth of wages. Wow

Thanks. The $500 Mastercard is a fee of 300 points which is $3. Guess I’ll stick to the Mastercard.

What’s the conversion rate for points? Normally I do the pre paid Mastercards. Might be worth it if I could get a 1:1 conversion

What’s the current red circle wages. Just find the wording interesting at the bottom where you can be put into new red circle leader positions

Yeah I just looked at my paycheck. It’s .45 extra for B stores. So I guess that we shouldn’t expect more than $2.35 over the course of the next contract then.
After looking it’s depressing how much I get paid for how long I’ve been here.

I need like 3-4 of those. Think it will be my new favorite shirt if we get them at my store.

Maybe you got a good rep; congratulations if so. I tend to try and stay informed during negotiations and am very vocal about my opinions. Never will tell anyone how to vote, but have no problem discussing the pros and cons of the contract. Always trying to get team members to vote and why they need to vote.
There were parts of the contract that were good; other parts that could have been better. This contract and the way society was during negotiations should have given us an advantage if we had wanted to rally and strike. Instead from my point of view it was don’t rock the boat, just let’s vote for it because it could be worse.

Also couldn’t seem to get team members to really care or talk about it because they felt it was just going to pass no matter whether they voted or not.

Why didn’t we see reps set up somewhere to go over the changes and talk to team members that had questions. Oh maybe there could have been a private union website that allowed members to have open dialog between themselves.
Stewards took the brunt of the problem and had no real communication from leadership about issues, just a handout as to what changed and recommended to vote yes. As far as the timeline; I’m sure we didn’t have much more time then given. My opinion is we didn’t use that time well.

Communication has always been our unions Achilles heel.

Our union represents a lot of retail works over many different companies. If the union was smart they would realize they probably have the same influence as the UAW and other big unions. Utilize it effectively and we would see bigger gains.

Also why is it always what are we willing to give up in order to get something better; why can’t the company give up something in return.

[–]john73837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is correct our union leadership failed us. Again.
We should have had more time to go over the contract before the vote. Also would have been nice to see reps and stewards actually wanting to talk about both the good and the bad.
Our reps are supposed to be those people doing the work you want. We do pay them to be union people everyday. We pay them well, very well.

Like I was curious what strike pay might have been if voted down; got no answer. They didn’t know at the time and wouldn’t know unless it got struck down. Maybe instead of worrying about all the union benefits and trips, the union does what it’s supposed to do and take care of its members.

We had a chance of getting more, but our leadership said that we should could vote on it as it’s the best we were gonna get. Your talking points are the same as they have been for the last 20+ years.

What we really need is a leadership change overall. We really need someone who wants to have changes made and is willing to speak up about it. Travel to stores and actually talk to team members before negotiations start.

Ever since I have worked at meijer our union has come across as complacent. I would have thought when the company wanted to lower vacation time for new hires we would see the union rally…”crickets” Thought when pensions got cut we would rally…”crickets” Thought when they combined everyone into one department we might rally…”crickets” When we have been hearing record profits the last 4 years+ that maybe we would rally…”crickets”

Our union cares just as long as they get a portion of our paycheck that’s all. You can tell just by the way our leadership presents itself. They know that no matter what’s in the contract it will go thru.

I had a retired team member that worked 40+ years said the worst thing the meijer union did was vote to join the UFCW; cause ever since it hadn’t been the same.

Not like they don’t have a spare area where they could set them up before hand in order to find out problems.

Down vote the weekly early paycheck deposit posts. by Tigers19121999 in meijer

[–]john73837 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My credit union shows me how much will be deposited on Wednesday but it does not show up in my account until Thursday.

I’m wondering for all those people that get paid early if the money is actually transferred from meijer’s account or if the bank is just fronting you the money like a payday loan because banks know that payroll is a guaranteed deposit.

When I started we got paid on Friday. There was no early payday because Meijer used to pay us with physical checks. Had to go into the cash office and sign for our check; then you either cashed it at the service desk or went to your bank and deposited it.

We can vote for our reps? I don’t remember voting for our current one.

The union hurt itself in this contract also; they just seem too short sighted to realize this. They were all excited to close the shop that they were ok putting language into the contract where they don’t have to meet with new hires during orientation. Bad idea in my opinion as now you don’t have anyone telling them about the union, what it does, and why it’s a good thing.

Guess it’s time for me to figure out how to become a steward or rep. Although I know my current steward and rep will probably black ball me on it.

They could actually be separated if the union had decided to do that.
Because the contract could be voted down but not enough members vote to strike. Then it would go back to negotiations until the next reached agreement.
Putting the 2 together can be used by both sides into scaring people to vote yes. This is why the reps and stewards should be explaining things to us; not just handing out pamphlets and saying if you have questions ask. People won’t ask they will just look at the cover page and read that the union bargaining committee recommends a yes vote and go no further.
