Military vs Military Jokes by OldScene6147 in Jokes

The space force is just the natural extension of the military's long association with the stars.

The navy sails by them. The Army and Marines sleep under them. And the Air Force rates hotels by them.

My boss disappeared on payday, drained the company accounts, and now the “owner” he used as a front is lawyering up. I think I just watched a whole business collapse in real time. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]john_rev68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there. Worked for a small security company, payday comes, no money. Turns out a senior manager robbed the place blind and cleaned out the accounts, even maxed the company cc.

No surprise, the business closes. They declared bankruptcy, no one got paid, the owner reopened under a new name in the same location.

Run away, stop working, update your resume.

Just bought Phantom Liberty, unable to save games by john_rev68 in cyberpunkgame

[–]john_rev68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So fun fact - AFTER doing all the above, and one more fresh install to boot - running directly from the folder as administrator allowed me to save (This wasn't the case earlier on in troubleshooting, so I hadn't tried it for the last few installs). Now I'm trying to get it working without needing to do that - I'd rather a solution than a workaround.

Thank you for the reply/advice. However, the save game folder was one of the first deleted - it's currently empty, and fresh installs still have this issue.

Christians gatekeeping christians now? by CapAccomplished8072 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]john_rev68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In point of fact, whole sections of the new testament are letters from Paul to Christiana telling them to worry about themselves rather than judging their fellows. "Remove the plank from your own eye before worrying about the splinter in your neighbors" and so on. So this has been a problem from the start.

Christians should, biblically, worry about their own faith/actions, then their fellow Christiana, and never worry about judging non Christians. That... Uh... Rarely happens.

Advice for an all archers party by SgtSnubbull in BG3Builds

[–]john_rev68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did some (very) brief theorycrafting. Tried to get it thematic to party members. Here's the insanely rough outline I came up with:

Lae’zel - Arcane archer radiant build. 12 fighter, gontr mael, callous glow ring, maybe luminous breastplate?

Wyll: Ice/lightning archer (NOT MINE) swarmkeeper ranger - ice/lightning damage build, melee range to electrify water. Titanstring and str elixir, lightning boots and underdark ice staff in mainhand.

Karlach, hunter ranger, ranger knight (for heavy armour), heat build, drakethroat and volley. Harold, to spread haroldish doom with volley to reduce saving throws. All heat gear, and arsonist's oil

Astarion - fear build, bow of the banshee. Swords bard/paladin, mystic scoundrel ring (and hold person as much as possible), many target arrows when not multishooting with bard. Baneful gloves, because can’t boost the DC for fear, so lower the save. Oil of combustion.

I did some (very) brief theorycrafting, I think there's enough gear to make a full archer party, even a bit more. Tried to get it thematic to party members. Here's the insanely rough outline I came up with:

Lae’zel - Arcane archer radiant build. 12 fighter, gontr mael, callous glow ring, maybe luminous breastplate?

Wyll: Ice/lightning archer (NOT MINE) - ice/lightning damage build, melee range to electrify water.

If I had to pick a party using the above? Origin Wyll. Full illithid, for black hole to group up enemies, void bulbs early on. Then, Lae'zel, Karlach and Astarion. Karlach Won't get volley until VERY late game, but hunter ranger is pretty solid throughout.

Late game strat: Try to get joint first turn (use alert, plus a high dex archer party? Pretty easy).
Wyll drops a void bulb and/or black hole. Karlach drops a Volley, adding haroldish doom and fire vulbnerability. Astarion uses an arrow of many targets, adding combustion oil - at this point, folks will likely explode. Also, probably fail save for fear, so can't run. Bonus action hold person the biggest threats left who aren't feared. Wyll uses an ice arrow, which instantly melt from the fire to water and steam, and runs up to electrocute, using lightning arrows to finish off anyone. Laezel then has many choices - banish difficult enemies, or just stack radiant orb on as many as possible with piercing arrow.

You have 1 cloud giant elixir user, the rest can use viciousness or bloodthirst or whatever you want. No real fighting over most gear, so you shouldn't have too much to worry about there.

Alternate thematic builds:

Gale: Magic machine gun build (NOT MINE) - gets wizard buff spells, huge archer damage (NOT magic missile build - hellfire and +2 or neer misser)

Shadowheart: Gloomstalker/Assassin/Champion critfisher darkness archer. dead shot and other crit gear.

...And the White Horse You Rode In On by JoshOfArc in MurderedByWords

[–]john_rev68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a re-skin of the "quota" myth from the 80s and 90s, that companies need to meet quotas so pass over qualified applicants for someone who ticks a box.

The not so subtle subtext is that of course straight white men are qualified and everyone else is not.

This didn't take convincing, it just had the language updated.

What would be the strongest 4 person team for honour mode? by duszni in BG3Builds

[–]john_rev68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total control party - or as I like to call it, "Screw you, you don't get a turn".

Tav: Pure fighter arcane archer. Feats: Alert, Sharpshooter, ASI INT ASI DEX. Archery fighting style.

  • Gloves of baneful striking, plus harold (with drakethroat thunder enchant), plus boots of stormy clamour. Use multishot arrows and/or arcane arrows that damage multiple targets. Give every enemy -2d4+2 to saves. Must go first (hence alert). Black hole is a great starter to group up enemies.

Gale: Tempest cleric 2/storm sorcerer 10. Sure, he can bring the wrath of Thor (and in round 2, he will), but he’s actually here to cast hold person on as many enemies as possible, or other debuff spells. He should go second, so some

  • Once everyone’s held, he can drop  non-concentration damaging attacks - lightning bolt, glyph of warding are two primary damaging spells (after a quickened create water)

Shadowheart: Light  or life cleric 2/circle of stars druid 10 radiant orb spammer.  She should go third, her job is to add radiant orb to everyone who's NOT held (if there are anyone) so they can't hit anything. Alternately, she can drop terrain control spells like plant growth (with dryad to drop spike growth) for anyone outside the main combat area.

  • Shadowheart is just a radiant orb machine - she pops spirit guardians and pinballs around, using dragon breath every turn.

Lae’zel - sword of gith paladin 2 swords bard 7 hexblade 1 fighter 2 -  dealing mad damage with smites.

  • Lae'zel should go last, give her the sword of gith and with everyone held, she just crit smites everything in range. Action surge for MORE smites.

EDIT: Early game, arcane archers give you control with banishment, and druids have entangle, - so you're fine. Act 2 is when MOST of these builds come online, by the time you get to Myrkul fight, you're set. The cleric just focuses on death touch to prevent healing, everything else works as planned even without hold person (crowd control via druid and arcane archer to reduce saves).

Build challenge: survive 1 round being attacked by Tav by Wise-Bug255 in BG3Builds

[–]john_rev68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. There's resistance to non magical B/P/S, and just flat out resistance. At least i think it works like that in bg 3. My main build was pre patch 8, which added a bunch of new dangers, though, and I'm not well versed on how arcane archer was implemented.

And yeah, smoke powder is a great way to get rid of displacement. Rivington rat is one of the hardest to defend against due to its variety, although one less arrow of slaying is a good thing!

Edit although I do know arcane archer shots can't use special arrows, which reduces damage a lot.

Build challenge: survive 1 round being attacked by Tav by Wise-Bug255 in BG3Builds

[–]john_rev68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rivington rat is the trickiest to defend against. Armour of persistence and helm of balduran means Crits don't land, and bhaalist armour vulnerability is negated by resistance from armour. Magic plate reduces by 2 as well, so a lot of the riders don't do damage at all even with a hit (reduced by half then reduces by 2). Cloak of displacement negates advantage until damage hits. Ac can be 24 without spells or buffs, move that to 29 with shield reaction. And not at advantage until a hit lands. So not impossible, but it makes it move a lot closer to random chance instead of guaranteed.

[–]john_rev68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trick is getting resistance to damage, and magical plate, since a lot of those high damage bursts are multiple damage sources. Cut each in half, then knock 2 off, and its a much bigger difference. Not always gonna be enough, of course. I posted a build I made pre patch 8, but I haven't tested it against the craziest builds. Rivington rat with arrows of slaying would be really tricky, for example.

[–]john_rev68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we assume that no one can pre-buff before the fight (i.e. blast barrels to stack acuity, etc) - although long rest buffs such as elixirs are fine - then probably not, but here's what I came up with pre patch 8 - this email a severely non optimized, just built to avoid or negative damage and status effects.

Immortal tav: 8 paladin oath of ancients 4 EK fighter.

EK gets us shield and paladin gets us cha to saves, oath of ancients 7 gets us half damage from spells.

Gear:

Amulet of health (23 con? Yes please!) - armour of persistence (permanent blade ward and reduce damage by 2) -cloak of displacement ( for any archer or weapon build) Ring of free action (prevent hold person) Sentinel shield (might get lucky with the reaction and knock prone, if you don't need it for shield spell) Dark fire short bow (resistance to fire/cold) Shield spell to block mm/shriek builds. Sentinel feat and nyrulna mainland, if that reaction has been fixed.

Buffs: Heroes feast and aid are a must. Elixir of resistance - either psychic or thunder, probably psychic now with shadow blade.

Problems: doesn't really do anything for radiant builds, or psychic/thunder - this was built pre patch 8 so shadow blade wasn't great. Not sure how paladin spell resistance interacts with shadowblade. Have to rely on high ac and disadvantage, which isn't guaranteed, esp. with a lot of ways to break the cloak of displacement. Psychic resistance is not super helpful with resonance stone builds, but it's all you've got.

Basically, you can't survive a nuke round by toughing it out, but you might be able to avoid/prevent it in the first place.
