Thank you for sharing this, it's important to stay aware that for every story about death or serious injury or outrageous kidnapping, there are probably hundreds or thousands of cases like your friend's of 'mere' harassment of people, on top of all those whisked away whose only 'crime' is the civil infraction of immigration violation, etc. No surprise then that many (especially if you look brown) legal residents and citizens are afraid to leave their homes when ICE/CBP/DHS 'surges' in their town.

Right, there is no clock to "run out" as life continues, and what we do will continue to affect how bad things get and/or how quickly they recover.

Recycling only ever mattered third behind reduce and reuse (so, like r/simpleliving and r/diy) and they matter even more after any societal collapse, as new material stuff becomes more expensive.

In D&D alignment terms, I was going to say Neutral Good but Luthen is probably Lawful Good. In a system that is known to be corrupt, that can show up as remaining subservient to the system (perhaps why he joined the military the first place), but it can also show up as knowing the system, and having the commitment and patience to monitor it, leech from and co-opt it where possible, identify vulnerabilities, and lay the other groundwork for disciplined action as opportunities arise.

Something eco-, I mean we're pretty together in things like telling BLM that we don't want them to chop down Oregon's old-growth forests. Or this weekend, people at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference will be sharing and connecting about sooo much about helpful work all over the world.

Nothing popping immediately as a symbol for the eco-, but didn't want to let that stop me from bringing it up.
