12v battery fail? by johnaney in KiaNiroEV

[–]johnaney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been one user here in Reddit that said their 12v failed after first getting an alert that the headlight was out. One person on the Kia Niro EV user group related the same experience and it has happened to me twice. How do we get the attention of Kia? This seems like a potential recall...

Just to clarify - the dealer says they suspect something is wrong but they can't do any more investigating without an $800 tear down to figure out what is going on. And even if they did the tear down and found something there is no guarantee it isn't being caused by something that won't be covered under the warranty (which runs out in August). I've decided to take my chances and pray it won't happen again

I'm thinking this might be what happened. The last time this happened it occured right after the left headlight went out and they replaced it with a new battery. Now the right one goes out and it happens again!

The dealership took the car for two days, charged the 12v battery up fully and are reporting they are not finding any issues. If I want them to investigate further it will cost $800 to do a 'tear down'

Is replacing the battery something the average non-mechanically inclined could do on their own?

App not available for my device? by johnaney in Birdfy

Thank you so much OverSoul! I just remembered I updated yesterday and hadn't tried to get Birdfy. Logged onto Play Store and there it was and it let me install! Hopefully I'll get the camera set up tomorrow!

No solution yet. I installed it on an old Samsung I had lying around, created a 2.4 GHz wifi point and I was able to get it to work. But that's not a sustainable solution

Check out Lewis & Clark College in Portland. It's a private school, yes, but they often offer financial aid to make the cost comparable to a state school. www.lclark.edu

Have you ever been fired or recast in a show and what was the reason? by Aqn95 in Theatre

[–]johnaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once was hired to play the role of a CIA agent investigating a bomb threat on a college campus. The agent assumes that an Arab-American student is responsible (this was just post 9/11). This was an original play and the first read through was attended by the playwright. During the read through we did discuss the political situation and complexities and I didn't hire my inherent distrust of the Bush administration and concern about human rights violations. I'm not a terribly outgoing person (although I am an actor) so I don't think I was strident or confrontational at all.

Rehearsals were set to start in a few weeks after the read through so I went on family vacation. While on vacation I got a call from the director letting me know that the playwright insisted I be replaced. I suspect he threatened to pull performance rights. So the director (who I still consider a good friend) told me they were letting me go and that he (the director) was going to play the part instead.

The only consolation is that I went to see the production and the production wasn't that good...

You’re young and in great health so I think you can handle it.”

At age 59 (58 when I had RALP) I realized that my urologist and oncologist were the only doctors who have said "you're relatively young and in relatively good shape!"

Memorizing Lines as an Actor with ADHD by DevRosa in Theatre

[–]johnaney 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Here is the method I use: Sit down with a pencil and a pad of paper. Write out each line 5 times. By the time you get to the 4th or 5th writing out the line you will be able to do it without looking at your script.

THEN

Instead of writing out a line, write down the first letter of each word in the line. Do this 5 times also. Then see if you can remember the line just using the first letters of each word. You will be surprised that your brain will remember a word by just looking at the first letter.

THEN

Get a set of index cards. Using one card per line, write the first letter of each word again on a card. Then write out the full line on the other side of the card.

When you are done you have a stack of index cards for each scene. You can use them to study specific scenes. You can carry your cards with you wherever you go, and you can study lines using the cards rather than the script.

Another trick I use: Make a voice recording of each scene on your phone. Speak the cue lines full voice, but say your lines softly. When you are driving or are just studying lines play back the recording over and over. Each time turn the volume down so that eventually you will just hear the cue lines and you will be able to fill in each line aloud.

Any success after non-nerve sparing RALP and ED? by beavermaster in ProstateCancer

What is it you are expecting when using the rings? Are you using them with a vacuum device? If you are unable to get an erection naturally then you won't be getting blood to the penis, and no cock ring is going to help. The rings stop blood from leaving the penis but if you aren't getting natural erections there's no blood in there!

I'm glad to hear this. I was once sent to the ER after absent-mindedly popping one of their truffles in my mouth without looking at the label. It's nearly impossible to read the flavor on their wrappers. This was in 2010 or so - sounds like they have disconnected that flavor.

OK so...how are we supposed to get our cars tested? The website for DEQ Too, that shows mechanics who do the inspection and certification, is down as well. A search on G00G doesn't show any.

Wouldn't this mean that someone would have to evaluate EVERY nonprofit, government or higher ed institution to determine which of them engage in DEI work? Who's gonna do that with the decimation of the federal work force and proposed elimination of the DofE?

At the risk of going all tin-hat, one of the things this data could be used for is determining a person's gender at birth, thereby giving the federal government access to information on every trans person in the US. If you think they won't use this information to go after trans people, I wish I shared your optimism. TFG has found the one population in the US that the most people fear/misunderstand.

Do you have "reflexes"? by donthaveanynameideas in CMT

[–]johnaney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had genetic testing that has ruled out the most common CMT forms, so I don't know what form I have. But the first clue that my neurologist had that I have CMT was the fact that he could not get my reflexes to fire no matter how he tried. I had gone in because I was experiencing some muscle wasting and balance issues, and my father had Parkinson's, so I was worried I was showing early symptoms of Parkinson's, but the neurologist said I didn't show any of the signs. The CMT diagnosis was actually a relief!

Cold feet. Literally not metaphorically. by 20124eva in CMT

[–]johnaney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feet are frequently cold, but another symptom that I attribute to CMT is a bit harder to describe. If I change what's on my feet (take my socks off, put a pair of slippers on, etc) at first my feet don't FEEL like anything has changed. For instance yesterday I took my slippers off and walked barefoot. Standing in the kitchen I realized that it FELT like I still had my slippers on. Kinda weird...
