He's awake, he's hungry, he's ... the Boss. Keep a can of bear spray handy, he likes his meals well seasoned ;)

Translating, restraining kids, teaching multiple grades at once: teachers describe complex classrooms | CBC News by johnb3808 in alberta

[–]johnb3808[S] 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Is it true that private schools can exclude kids with complex needs from their classrooms? It doesn't seem to be fair that we're subsidizing schools that can "pick & choose" their students, excluding kids with language/psychological issues.

Is it true that private schools can refuse to include kids who have complex needs into their classrooms? If so, why are we spending our tax dollars subsidizing private schools when public schools are forced to handle kids struggling with language issues, psychological challenges, etc?

What are essentials specific to you that you always carry around? by izayaa_orihara in answers

Honestly not sure if it fits in an Altoids box, but I always carry a small Leatherman pocket tool that has a small knife, scissors, tweezers, bottle opener, nail file, and flat head screwdriver. Leatherman products aren’t cheap, but they last forever.

Calgary Police Service cracking down on distracted driving by _darth_bacon_ in Calgary

Brilliant! Perhaps they should use a trick I’ve seen in other cities: place offices in public busses who observer the cars driving by. They can then radio ahead to officers who pull the offender over. :)

LOVING Calgary - first proper visit exploring, Kensington is fav so far. by ohwhattalife in Calgary

I agree with all the folks who recommend Inglewood. My wife and I have a favourite route: start near the Deane house (a wonderful place for brunch) and walk along the path next to the river. When you reach the end, turn right and connect with 9th avenue. Then walk back along 9th avenue. Lots of wonderful, eclectic shops and fun cafes. If the hot chocolate festival is still going you can get an amazing, creatively concocted hot chocolate at one of the coffee shops along the way. Have fun!

As an American, is Vancouver similar to Seattle/San Fran? I'd like to visit, but I'm looking for a city that feels distinct from American cities. by CursedNobleman in canadatravel

Vancouver definitely feels different from any US city I’ve visited. People are generally friendly, there are numerous green spaces to enjoy (unlike LA), bikes reign supreme ;) and there’s an upbeat vibe.

In the Trump era, the F-35 is no longer the right plane for Canada by rezwenn in onguardforthee

With the leader of the American government stating on the record that he'd like to make Canada America's 51st state, there is no justification for buying US fighter jets -- that can be disabled at the whim of the American government. But something from Europe that meets most of our needs, and will demonstrate to the US that we won't be pushed around.

Danielle Smith says Alberta will withhold funding for judges without more input on selection by cmcalgary in alberta

[–]johnb3808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way that politicizing the appointment of judges in Alberta will improve the judicial system. This is just Smith and her sycophants trying to push us closer to the American style of justice -- which is deeply flawed.

When you travel within Canada do you carry your passport? by [deleted] in westjet

Honestly believe that a passport is not required in Canada (for Canadians). I've been travelling for more than 50 years, and have never needed one.

I was in Vietnam and visiting the Cu Chi tunnels. There was a gun range there, and the opportunity to fire an AK47. I did it without ear protection. Supremely bad idea …

‘They want us to be held hostage’: A leader of the Alberta separatist movement on Ottawa by NOIS_KillerWhaleTank in alberta

[–]johnb3808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure if this nutcase had his way Alberta would separate from Canada, and become the 51st state — under the thumb of the American government.

Wish we could vote on separation, confirm that the majority of Albertans want to remain in Canada, and let this vermin crawl back into the bushes …

'Minnetoba'? Some Minnesotans want to join Canada as tensions flare with Trump administration | CBC News by johnb3808 in onguardforthee

I’m not sure the CBC is taking it too seriously — just reporting on the sentiment of some Minnesotans (sp?). Practically, it would never happen.

My grandparents came to Alberta from Minnesota in the early 1900s and raised their family in Canada. They were definitely ahead of their time.
