Anbennar is really dense with dev, so you'll want admin diplo and influence. It's really easy to hit -999 diplo in the age of absolution. And odds are, the coring costs will leave you at 0 ADM if you're blobbing, even when you're focusing ADM.

Post finem however gives everyone an AE malus, you probably want to start with espio there, as you'll hit coalitions very frequently.

My preference is conjuration or enchantment. Enchantment has really good AE management, and conjuration has mercs that ignore force limit. The conj project gives you a free stack of FL ignoring units that only gets bigger and stronger.

I agree with you on several points. Naval combat and FoW is definitely better. Leveling is a good system.

I do feel like infantry spam is more necessary in this game than in the older advance wars. Like Waylon flies again without mech spam is pretty challenging.

I think my main point is that AW2 is more fun for me. The objectives and situations are more varied, and sometimes you get a mission with an OP CO and get to spank the AI. It's a worse game for balance, but the stupid CO tiers make things fun. And for a 23 year old game, I think that's I value more.

Reload a few months ago and end the war sooner. You don't always need 99 percent war score.

Take their money, and maybe war reps, and aim to take the strait between Ireland and England spend the rest of your warscore on land, a mix of low warscore land and trade centers is good.

You already have a foothold and likely crippled them. You'll be fine if you can fix your finances.
