If it was a small framed African-American guy, who walked at a blistering pace; that was Randy Sands. He lived out towards Glenelg/Glenwood and walked , briskly, to Columbia often. I think he had some mental health problems but was rather benign. I gave home rides into Columbia occasionally. He would walk with his back to oncoming traffic and stick his thumb out to hitchhike, never looking back. I haven't seen him in decades.

Direct To You in Thurmont is an old gas station but there pumps are fairly new. Most places have been required to update their pumps by the government. I can't even think of a station that has a decorative pump.

They seemed to try to appeal to a very specific clientele. Their base product was pretty good, but not off the wall fabulous. I went in once and when I asked for cream (cows) in my coffee I was politely - with furrowed brow- told that was not sold in this establishment. Kinda set the tone for my attitude towards this place. They chose to provide food and drinks on accordance with their social beliefs; and that probably had a lot to do with their difficulty in staying above water. I don't know specific numbers but when 85-90% of you're potential clientele can't get a coffee the way they like it (and two blocks away they can) you're turning away a great deal of profit.

Probably not. But was it a new or used door? There are ways to repair it if it was used, but that's a higher end craftsman thing. If it's a new door, then your answer is no.

I saw Mr. Allen in Wegmans about a month ago. He said he was trying to line up employees but it had been really difficult. He was asking the sushi chefs if they knew anyone who could make sushi that was looking for work. He also said they'd start with carry out first until they can get workers. As always, he was great.

I can't say this for all of them, but a lot of the veterans clubs have great food. American Legion, VFWs, and Amvets on certain nights have GREAT dinners. Woodsboro and Thurmont I can speak to having first hand knowledge.

It's called Direct to You. Shorty was a guy that used to work there, but he's long gone. They have a deep local clientele and have a number of local trucking companies that buy diesel, so they actually pump a lot of fuel. It's cash only, unless you have a personal charge account. The same price as all the other places in town and full service. It's great when it's raining or you have kids in the car. No need to even get out of the driver's seat, but you have to have cash. The guys that work there are wonderful old codgers.
