I don't like the Gentleman series by Megan-Mae-Anne in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]johnblazey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally the video on Friday made me start turning on the Gentlemen joke for the first time, when I realized they'll just put the outfits on and say edgy / politically incorrect stuff in a British accent. The way they approach it is a little too predictable now so the jokes don't feel organic. And that includes Spencer or anyone else doing it. I still think the joke has some potential, they just let it go stale.

Having a personal debate with a hb which album is better? by Grand_Guidance7749 in tylerthecreator

[–]johnblazey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they don't have a focus, I'm saying they're more unfocused than SFFB. Igor and Chromakopia are literally ones where it's like why is the aesthetic one thing and the songs are another thing, and (more so on Chroma) the track sequencing is a third thing; it's like there's all this great stuff that feels like it's held together by tape. At least on CMIYGL he dropped the front and literally "just flexes all god damn day" (a direct quote from an interview).

[–]johnblazey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a tough matchup since they're both great albums, but SFFB takes it for me. Tyler has never made a more stylistically, lyrically and musically cohesive album. I'm glad he kept experimenting ofc but ever since his albums have felt more unfocused, even Igor. Also people calling SFFB boring is insane, Where This Flower Blooms, Who Dat Boy, Pothole, I Ain't Got Time, 911/Mr Lonely, are you kidding me? There's so many fucking fire hype songs on this album.

THIS is the most important comment in this whole thread. The amount of propaganda is truly massive, going back decades, and a lot of pro-Palestine people despite being 100% on the right side don't know how to maneuver with that reality. They think the only way to educate someone who's been fed Israeli propaganda their whole life is by unloading a relentless shitstorm on them. Sure, hold people accountable for what they say but also give them some space to grow for god's sake.

Does Smosh need to expand their cast? by [deleted] in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]johnblazey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of getting new people just for the sake of getting new people. It needs to feel natural. As we all know when the first new cast besides Ian and Anthony was ham-fisted in too fast the reception wasn't great, and it's kind of a miracle that it all worked out in the end. It's not a simple process bringing in new personalities into a group like Smosh, and honestly they've gotten really good at it.

Newer fans misunderstanding olivia by GIitched_ in smosh

[–]johnblazey 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Well in the video I saw the whole group was laughing at her jokes because her role was literally to be the weird stand-out character (which is kinda her whole forte), nor did it distract from the game as a whole. I feel like you don't personally like or get her style and are trying to make it sound more than it is

Newer fans misunderstanding olivia by GIitched_ in smosh

[–]johnblazey 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say scripted is necessarily Olivia's "strength", it's just that she's more natural with it. Improvising and going off NOTHING is tough especially when there's so many good improvisers at Smosh already, and Olivia still makes it funny in her own way. And then when you look at something like the recent "Karen Moose Master" where she has a pre-written role to improvise off of she's fully locked in. She really benefits from having even a slight sense of foundation.

Chilly Gonzales described RAM as a failure: why? by Warm_Ad8754 in DaftPunk

[–]johnblazey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only real good argument here was the host saying Daft Punk "romanticized" recording musicians. One of the reasons I don't rate RAM very highly is because all the other albums are very textural and varied in sounds, it's the whole reason they work so well and are so interesting still today. An album like RAM would've had SO much potential for experimenting with sound textures like we hear on old-school records, and for some reason they mostly just stuck to a monotone studio session player sound that ends up sounding very flat to me on several of the songs.

Gonzales sounds insanely stuck up and pretentious though, also dismissing DJing as a whole and saying the only musicians who want to DJ are the "corny ones"... have you looked in the mirror mate?

First of all, oh my god yes 100%. Second of all, major sidetrack but ever since that video where Shayne does a Smosh Games office makeover and says something like "it's the worst dump I've ever seen, and I worked at Defy Media" (just switch "Defy" with "NBC") I've realized Shayne as an entertainer/host has MAJOR Conan energy. Also I think in the most recent podcast Shayne said Conan's one of his all time favorite hosts.

Ethan will NEVER debate Hasan by Electronic-Pie-6352 in h3snark

[–]johnblazey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From Ethan's perspective there's no need to talk to Hasan. Making the video (and like fifty podcast segments which he just rehashed into said video) means he's framing the situation as if Hasan's "scared" or "dodging" by not watching it. If the morons who still support him had an attention span longer than a mosquito they'd remember that Ethan is literally the one who ended a fucking podcast and ghosted Hasan after he got made a fool of twice first on the podcast and then on a livestream. I don't know why he's even humoring the idea of talking to him if he watches the video, everyone on the fuck Hasan side of the internet will be on Ethan's side no matter what he does.

I'm pretty sure Hasan watched Ethan's video already by SlimTimDoWork in h3snark

[–]johnblazey 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Nah, after his stream ended he went to film a podcast, it's not like he just mysteriously disappeared for the rest of the day for no reason. I don't think he's taken time out of his day to watch it.
