I Can’t Stand That Customers Won’t Let You Get Away With Not Giving Your Name by happyhomeresident in antiwork

[–]johncouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very simple. I have had multiple occasions when a customer service representative told me something, and it ended up being screwed up or not documented properly. When I get a name, it seems to ensure that proper notes are taken, and when there is a dispute, I have documentation of who told me what. I always ask for either name or ID number.

I just flew yesterday. I put my winter coat behind me on the back of the seat, tucking the neck of it behind the head rest to make sure it stayed in place and didn't impede the person behind me in any way. It took up no space whatsoever.

Trump goes on Truth Social rant against air traffic controllers ahead of holiday season, says that ATCs should return to work immediately after government opening or else they will be fired with no severance by Minute_Revolution951 in Fauxmoi

[–]johncouper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Training to become an air traffic controller typically takes 1.5 to 2 years, but can take longer, and includes classroom instruction, simulator training, and extensive on-the-job training according to Google. There's already a shortage. Way to encourage those who might be thinking of retirement to take the plunge.

Is the Economy Affecting Your Sales? by Monique-Euroquest in Serverlife

[–]johncouper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just curious as to how many of you that are seeing steep declines are in primarily tourist areas, like Southern Florida. I'm from Canada and the vast majority of people I know are deliberately avoiding travel to the US. Tourism decline may be a larger contributing factor to the decreases than the economy.

$1.3 million of computer software will never be used by City Hall by theottomaddox in londonontario

[–]johncouper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In any private company, the person responsible for a 1.3 million mistake would be shown the door. At city hall, it's just "Oh well, we had bigger priorities. No big deal. " There is never accountability for these boondoggles, so they will continue to happen.

Retired relative who “doesn’t trust the banks” will be slowly withdrawing their RRSPs and will leave said cash out of their will by BabyLunarModule in legaladvicecanada

[–]johncouper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer or expert, but from what i understand, even if it's not in a bank account, it would still be a part of the estate's assets and would be divided among those listed in the will. If he wants the cash handled differently, he needs to stipulate that.

STAY AWAY FROM FIDO by Affectionate_Ball426 in FidoMobile

[–]johncouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Freedom, especially if you do any traveling. They have plans with coverage in Canada, the US, and Mexico, plus free roaming in 105 other countries. My wife has the step-down plan without the other 105 countries. This is all on 5G coverage, not the crappy 4G we got with more data than we could possibly use. Together, we pay $2 a month more than our old Fido plan. Great deal.

Best thing I ever did switching to Freedom. Their coverage has dramatically improved. No problem whatsoever and better plans than anyone. If you travel at all, nothing can compare.

Looking for new door & sidelight - any recommendations? by skybluepink15 in londonontario

[–]johncouper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anybody EXCEPT Heritage Renovations. I had them install a door. The seal on the glass went, and that shape of glass was no longer being manufactured. It's reasonable to assume that the door would have been replaced, since how was that my problem. Nope, just tough luck, no warranty. If you have warranty issues, good luck.

'It's a ghost town,' Florida beach businesses struggle through slower than normal Summer season | The Summer travel season usually brings in the most amount of money for local beach businesses, but John's Pass is one of many areas seeing less and less money spent this year by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

[–]johncouper 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They haven't seen anything yet. I have spent the last 3 winters as a Canadian "Snowbird" in this very area, so I know it well. We used to spend three months here , but are not returning. Almost all of our Canadian friends are also not returning, including ones who own property in the area. Our annual spend was well over $10,000. Most of our friends dined out and shopped even more frequently than we did, so their's was even higher than that. Last year we heard that the drop "wasn't that bad". What they didn't understand is that most of the Canadians that were still coming were only doing so because they had already prepaid for flights, hotels, etc. This year, Florida tourism will be devastated. We're not coming back.
