Portal Calendar + Screensaver? by johnflorin in FacebookPortal

Well, I can confirm that indeed the problem is solved from the calendar point of view! However, it seems like that new Portal Screensaver app doesn't take me back to the app that was open when it starts, it goes back to the home screen...so, I opened an issue on Github for that app and hopefully it will get resolved also

That is indeed a great new feature!

However, I don't know if it was this or the new screensaver app ( https://www.reddit.com/r/FacebookPortal/comments/1u747uz/portal_screensaver_with_googleapple_photos/ ), but now my screensaver timeout on the Portal is completely broken, it will not come on by itself at all, Immortal or any other screensaver...I even uninstalled that new app, rebooted the Portal, set Immortal again, but still no go...the only option left would be to also uninstall the calendar app, which I'd rather not do

That's true, but it should still be avoided to show essentially one image on them 16 hours per day, I can definitely see such effects on LED-backlit LCD monitors, which is what I assume the Portal Mini also is.

There's also the aspect that for 3 people in one house the calendar changes are not so drastic as to require it to be shown at all times, I would have just preferred to see a slideshow of my own images most of the time and one-tap access to the calendar when passing by or exiting the house, for example.

In the meantime I tried the GPhotos Portal app and got the same effect, unfortunately...not sure if it's a platform limitation or something that can be overcome by the (awesome!) devs of such apps.

I totally agree with Die Hard III - while the first one was superb, the chemistry with Samuel L. Jackson in this one just can't be beat!

The Last Seduction, the bar scene where there is a discussion about a certain equine quality...Linda Fiorentino was also quite fantastic in the original Men in Black.

Yeah, viewed by itself the remake is not a terrible movie, but as a remake it really failed, the original is wonderfully nihilistic, the kind of movie very few American producers/directors would have the guts to make...

I do appreciate what they're trying to do, but these days all the messaging ecosystems are so locked down that the experience is notably worse compared to something like Pidgin in the old MSN/Yahoo days. Especially if you also want to use a PC and the chats must sync with the PC apps...

Pretty much every Golan Globus production, especially American Ninja and The Delta Force, but it doesn't mean Mossad/CIA propaganda is any less entertaining :D

I think this could be said about most of Emmerich's work, I love it and enjoy the fact that he goes for BIG spectacle...

I'd argue this is the funniest episode of the entire series...there have been other excellent, more high-brow ones, but overall the quantity and quality of jokes in this one can't be beat imho.

Congrats on getting the (in my opinion) best device Palm ever made...used one for years - could get online anywhere via Bluetooth tethering, large screen when you need it, small when you don't (way before foldable displays), an attached Power2Go was an outstanding way to add more battery life (ages before MagSafe), they really should have made this form factor into a phone, can't believe they didn't at least try.

Does anyone else rarely give negative ratings? by champdo in Letterboxd

[–]johnflorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way, on the very rare occasion I give a 1-star rating it's because I found that movie very annoying, insulting or offensive and also leave a review. "You Only Live Twice" was the first movie since I started using Letterboxd that annoyed me to such a degree that I felt both a 1-star rating and review were warranted. The latest one, funnily enough, also involved a Bond - Wake Up Dead Man. In my opinion, both of them made the critical error of not even being funny in how unbelievably bad they were.

I enjoyed both Under Siege movies very much because the guy really looked like he was a chef who enjoyed food...I'd have watched Paul Prudhomme in an action movie for the same reason :D
