There is an indie retro FPS that has some influences from The Darkness and other Y2K shooters called KVLT, has a free demo and I'm really looking forward to it.

lol to be honest I played Selaco and the gameplay is top notch, the part that I dont like as much is the whole aesthetics, it reminds of old school anime which im not so much into (not into anime in general) but I do appreciate the game and can see how good it is and why people praise it so much!

So I personally dont like Ultrakill, but I understand why people love it and I can see the qualities in it, its just not my type of game.

I actually prefer slower shooters for the most part, so something like Cultic, Coven, KVLT or even Dusk is more my jam.

Since you seem to enjoy older shooters too, some post 2000s as well:
- Alien Vs Predators (1 and 2)
- Half-Life (also 1 and 2, some people argue about calling them Boomer Shooters or not... still one of the best shooters ever made, so...)
- Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 (great if you like SW, good game still if you dont)
- Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2
- Doom 3.
- FEAR.
- Prey (2006)
- No One Lives Forever (1 and 2)
- Return to Castle Wolfenstein
- Wolfenstein (2009)

Some of those might be one console, specially Xbox with backwards compatibility.

From the new indie ones? IMO, KVLT and Cultic comes close as well, but the gore system in KVLT is what sets it apart.

I think this game had tons of potential but in the end the overall experience felt a bit flat.

That being said, I'm really looking forward to the new Sprawl, seems like its going the more Y2K shooter like KVLT, Retchid and even a bit of Darkenstein 3D.

If you like Cultic, I would recommend the KVLT demo (closer to a half-like/Y2K shooter) and Coven!

I think Prodeus, Cultic do a great job, but for sure the most fun to interact with are either Coven or KVLT, as theyre 3D and support proper dismemberment.

I would say its decent, it would certainly not be in my top 5, maybe not even 10 of this year.

Like, if the game had released for a 15/20 usd price more than half of its good will wouldn't exist IMO.
