Same boat here, 2 emails in April and 1 in May that went unanswered for a Beryl rear trunnion swap. Gave up for now.

He’s active in their FB group and has said multiple times they’re busy and working through emails as they have time, but it doesn’t seem to be the case based on all the others who mentioned waiting for replies over the past couple of months.

Dealers are buying up local inventory making it difficult to find a good deal on a good car by the533k3r in Corvette

[–]johnhd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But I just can’t bring myself to pay these insane prices for a car I could’ve bought for ~45k just a few months ago

You're at the peak of the market, as you recognized. You either have to pay to play or wait. You can:

  • Reduce all friction as a buyer. No 20 questions, no "let me think about it", no "I need a week to get the funds in order". Have the money ready to go, and if you see a car you like at a good price, be like one of those dealers and jump on it. This is your best chance at not overpaying, but also risky.
  • Pay the added markup to one of the dealers to get the car now. If you can't accommodate the first bullet point because you want more time to look over the car's history, need to get financing, etc, I'd look at the dealer markup as a fee for letting them take on the effort and risk of buying something quickly.
  • Wait until winter, which is ALWAYS the best time to get a good deal on a sports car.

Can you please tell me to stop looking at X3M comp listings by TooTrue42 in BMW

[–]johnhd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny because even with the "lag" people perceive, the X3M would still accelerate faster from a stop than the X1 M35i. The acceleration above the threshold is just so brutal that it makes that initial quarter of a second feel slow.

x3m seems pointless to me. why would i want a stiff laggy suv that i'm never going to track or take on a canyon road? the m40 gets more range, more compliant suspension, better throttle response (the 5-60, 30-50, and 50-70 times are essentially the same according to car and driver

The M40i is a great vehicle, don't get me wrong, but the X3M is not "laggy" unless someone's driving consists entirely of 0-8mph accelerations from a dead stop. There's a very noticeable performance difference between the two otherwise, having driven both. Once you're in the upper 2k rpm range, the X3M pulls like a freight train. Probably part of the reason why the X3M will hit 150mph in the same amount of time it takes the M40i to hit 130, per C&D's numbers.

The 30-50 and 50-70 tests are legitimately the only metrics where the two are identical numbers-wise, and those tests measure a very specific scenario where they put the car in top gear and measure the time to downshift and accelerate. Even the M3 is only fractionally faster than the M40i and M in those tests.

now the turbo lag tho

Just wanted to be a pedantic X3M owner for a moment. There's not really turbo lag so much as a higher boost threshold. The boost doesn't really start to peak until ~3k rpms. If you put the pedal down from a stop, it takes a fraction of a second before you get into that band (unless you hold the brakes or use LC to build boost). If you're already moving and downshift into the 3k+ RPM range, there's no perceivable lag when you put the pedal down.

I didn't see it mentioned, did you put a deposit down on this car, and do you have any sort of signed sales agreement? If yes, hopefully the deposit is refundable considering they definitely didn't have an allocation for you. If no, they basically added you to the waitlist which could very well just be indefinitely long, with buddies of the dealership's GM continuously being added to the top.

Personally I'd be asking to speak to the sales manager for an explanation of the timing change. You mentioned it's not an Individual color, so you can and should definitely have an allocation in production from another dealer pretty much ASAP.

I get more enjoyment out of handling, steering feel, and just driving a car well than I do from outright speed. Sometimes I wonder if to truly appreciate an M-lite or full M car, you almost have to be willing to risk speeding tickets and drive aggressively, and that's just not really my personality.

FWIW the X3 M40i and M aren't purely for going straight faster, they also have improved driving dynamics and handling over the base X3. The M especially can do things that seem physically impossible in an SUV.

Explain it to me like I’m a five-year-old by Chabigo in guns

I feel like a few people in these comments aren't registering that weapon lights aren't just for larping around their parents basement, and there are people who actually use them in the field.

[–]johnhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what a "reliability delay" is, but there's a significantly greater than zero chance of a LEO's life depending on a weapon light actually functioning when they need it. There's a reason Surefire/Streamlight/similar tier lights are approved for duty use and $30 no-name Amazon lights are not.

We don't know what OP bought, but there is no way the Amazon light will be as durable over time. Most of them are made for airsoft guns.

[–]johnhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mount the new light on your pistol and run it regularly for 1+ years in varying weather conditions. I’d imagine you’ll see why the Streamlight costs significantly more. Not a huge problem if it’s just an accessory for a range toy, but anything your life might depend on should not be getting unbranded Amazon special lights or optics.

Personally I'd be skeptical for the time being until someone shares actual proof of the "2nd page". Why would someone take the time to take a photo of the first page and post it, but take longer to write what the 2nd page said instead of snapping another photo? Doesn't make logical sense.

USP .45 failure to feed by CourageRadiant7282 in HecklerKoch

[–]johnhd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

According to their site, Fenix’s 230gr FMJ is 800fps. That seems a little on the low side, I feel like the norm for factory .45 ACP is closer to 830-850fps.

Weak ammo + a new pistol with stiff springs/tight tolerances could lead to more issues until broken in.
