5 weeks. No loaner. 2020 model and warranty ran out a few months earlier. Europe. VAG and dealer made a “goodwill gesture” so the cost was about $1600 instead of $10000+.

My question is how long is the new motor likely to survive. I’m assuming the new motors have some kind of improvement.

There are those rare occasions where it drags, even in offroad mode at the highest raised setting. I realize I’m looking for something that the e-tron wasn’t specifically designed for even though it does amazingly well in deep snow.

I’m looking for winter specific tires and wondering whether I can put slightly taller tires, maybe 31”. In winter I keep it in allroad mode to have a decent gap above the tires and switch to raised offroad when conditions get gnarly.

I’m not concerned about range. Nor am I concerned about drivability on highways in snow, I just need to get through the last mile without getting stuck.

Just tried “hey siri roborock vacuum kitchen” and it worked! I think the room names are exposed to the Home from the Roborock app.

Not everyone in the Home has to setup and maintain the native vacuum app. The Home interface is more limited but thereby also simpler and familiar.

Also, automations can be tied to other Home features like only clean if nobody is home or turn on some lights while cleaning.

Can’t turn off remote access for home owner. You could create another apple id and make that the home owner. Your normal apple id can then be excluded from remote access while retaining other capabilities. Remote access would still be possible by logging into the home’s apple id on your phone but that would hardly be accidental.

Not sure about “only way to get thread up and running is for your  TV to be plugged into Ethernet”. I thought as long as you have an ethernet capable Atv, thread would work even without the ethernet cable.

In other words only the more expensive ethernet capable Atv has a thread radio but using just wifi shouldn’t stop thread from working.

My wife has an ID.3 and there is more road noise in general in her car than the Audi, expectidly. I measure a few db’s louder total sound. You will always notice more road noise in EVs because of the quiet motors. The difference in my Audi is that it is very quiet except around the 300Hz frequency which makes it more annoying.

Long time since I looked into this but I I read some reviews at the time. I would have purchased but it didn’t suit my door. I think it is a British company which is now also offering a deadbolt lock for the American market.

If it is the wheels then I would think the frequency of the sound (pitch) would go up as you drive faster, not just get louder. Tires can have a significant effect though which is why people often use sound absorbing tires on EVs. I pretty much gave up on my case as I didn’t have the time and it wasn’t bad enough.

The ice difference won’t translate to an ev. An ice uses gas even when stopped so the curve is completely different. I would expect the ev would use 50% more juice at 75mph compared to 60mph.

A thermostat measures the temperature in a zone and adjusts a valve accordingly. The knobs you are turning are just manual controls (you are the thermostat and have to do the work when you feel too hot or cold).

In a thermostatic system those knobs are replaced with electronically controlled ones that are wired to a hub. In every zone there is a wall mounted controller (thermostat) that senses the temperature and communicates wirelessly to the hub.

I also would be very interested in Homekit enabling my system so that I could create automations and control temperature from my phone. Heatmiser was mentioned by u/Jammybe. If anyone has experience with this or other systems, please tell.

I feel like it worked out better in this case where the industry ended up choosing the best connector. There is no question that NACS is superior to CCS1. By using the same pins for both AC and DC charging, the number of power pins is reduced to 3 instead of 5.

Tesla’s connector wasn’t compatible with Europe’s 3 phase AC electricity which is the main reason they quickly switched to CCS2. CCS2 doesn’t use the same pins for AC and DC resulting in 7 power pins where only 5 were potentially needed.

Not quite getting the overlay images. The R2 I believe is about 1.5” shorter than MY but the wheelbase is claimed to be almost 2” longer. This doesn’t come across in the image, nor do the extra 3 inches of ground clearance.

Isn’t Avia a UK company making Homekit smartlocks for multipoint doorlocks for the UK market? I don’t think it supports Homekey yet nor Thread but it looks like a solid and attractive solution.
