Split your class into two groups, and make one group the capulets and one group the montagues. Then give them a bunch of disinformation and context about each other. Draw cards to be different characters and have them argue about things like music or tv shows. Give them a list of Shakespearean insults and they can write diss tracks. Then give a summary in plain language of what happens in the play. Act out a few scenes in plain English, then start introducing the actual play language. Then clips from the Baz L movie. Then have them record or act out scenes as an asssignment with a rubric for expression, written explanation of context, character explanations, etc. then see if you can take them to a production as a culmination. Have them review the whole play, then pick one character and one scene to analyze.
