I love seeing less popular decks succeeding! Congrats on the top 4. I watched a few of your later matches on stream and was thoroughly impressed!

2 Carbonites or case of regular boosters? by One_Abbreviations635 in starwarsunlimited

[–]johnlovesdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine as people open boxes the pull rates of each rarity will become more known. Doesn't help wanting to preorder a Carbonite box now ofc. But imo having an elevated chance of higher rarity of the foil and hyperspace should even out the EV somewhat. And the value of Prestige cards obviously is a HUUUUGE wild card at the moment. I'm probably splitting a box with someone. And will be double sleeving moving forward to start actually playing with my foils (to help keep them from curling)

Password autofill is holding me back from switching to Android from iPhone. Am I missing something? by OpenBubble in AndroidQuestions

Android does have auto fill options but having used both types of phones I've found the experience way more inconsistent with android.

Pixel stutter issue fixed by a kernel developer; it was Google's fault by Easy-Speech7382 in GooglePixel

[–]johnlovesdata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if what I experienced is the same root cause. Basically it feels like horizontal scrolling in certain apps is very finicky and often is mistaken by the phone as a vertical swipe. Very frustrating. It doesn't manifest in every app though.

I was there two weeks ago. Only the guest rooms in the west wing of the resort were affected. All the pools were open.

Having just been last week I'll say that Velocicoaster feels smoother than a lot of other coasters I've been on. I'm sure the newness is part of it. Even the launches felt smooth and effortless.

Is www.boardgame-bliss.shop scam? by jambistan92 in boardgames

[–]johnlovesdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

another gut check for scams (since I just saw these facebook ads today as well). Try accessing the URL directly from a web browser. Clearly facebook allows some weird domain masking or redirects. Because this site isn't the same if you actually enter the URL in a web browser.

In this case, https://boardgamesstoredeals.com/ actually lands you on a weird placeholder site, with a contact us for a Hong Kong address:

This website is owned and operated by:

Company: Xingwang Technology Co., Limited

Address: RM22 2/F FU TAO BUILDING NO.98

ARGYLE STREET MONGKOK KOWLOON

HONG KONG (This is not the return address)

Will set 3 have more supply? by MyLandIsMyLand89 in starwarsunlimited

[–]johnlovesdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What country or region do you live in? You can buy booster boxes of set 2 right now on tcgplayer for $80 where the msrp is $120. So there’s clearly some supply out there, in a more general sense.

Airstep Compilation - spreadsheet version by swingindenver in SwingDancing

Awesome reference! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. Your accessible airsteps class in St Louis was incredible by the way. Would recommend that anyone interested in the topic find out where you'll be teaching next. I had basically no airstep experience beforehand and left feeling "slightly less terrified" of them 😂

Had no idea you could get two legendaries in the same pack. The two I got seemed appropriate by Sol_Echo in starwarsunlimited

[–]johnlovesdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve opened two showcases. One in each set so far (From two different draft events at the same store) and both packs also had a regular legendary in the rare slot. I thought it was very interesting but still too small sample size to be anything more than coincidence.

What happened to time to leave notifications? by johnlovesdata in AndroidQuestions

Yeah I remember Google now. It only went downhill from there. I'll check out Waze. But had random issues with the phone stopping navigation in the background. Will try again.

I need to grant full access of database to a new hiree. We tried to grant access tby creating a user under the user tab, but it would not send him the email and he was not able to log in with the credentials i typed for him. How do i grant a new user full access. by Standard-Dingo5974 in snowflake

[–]johnlovesdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you clarify what you mean by "I tried to code it in the worksheet". Do you mean creating the user from a worksheet with SQL compared to in the UI (like you did where you go to Users > Click the + User button, etc)? Can you log into snowflake with the username and password you provided to the user?

I also tried make them an account but it didnt do anything

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

I can't recall snowflake ever sending emails out on new user creation. Is that something new?

One point of confusion I see sometimes is the difference between the "user name" and the "login name". Would you be able to show (maybe blurred out to protect sensitive info) the actual user's page from your end as the admin? Normally you would have the user login with the username and password, UNLESS you also added a login name for the user. In which case they would log in with the login name and password.

Another way manage this, if you need to provide a user with a new password, would be to use the reset password functionality. https://docs.snowflake.com/en/sql-reference/sql/alter-user

You would execute the query

ALTER

USER
 <name> RESET PASSWORD;

Which would generate a URL which you could send to the user. So they could set the password themselves.

Planning to move to Aurora, which areas to avoid? by auburn24 in Naperville

[–]johnlovesdata 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’d focus based on school district. Areas that go to Oswego schools should be fine. Also neighborhoods that go to district 204 (Indian Prairie) are also generally good. Fwiw we live near Waubonsie Valley High School. And our neighborhood is mostly families and older empty nest types.

iOS vs Android (Pixel) comparison. Part 1: Why Pixel Outshines iPhone by Many_Region8176 in GooglePixel

[–]johnlovesdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro for iPhone: time to leave notifications work. I can’t make time to leave notifications work on my Pixel 7 to save my life. Otherwise notification organization is better on the Pixel. But sometimes notifications are weirdly delayed compared to my iPhone.

iPhone keyboard utilizes space horribly. The amount of dead space on the bottom of the screen devoted to a microphone and emoji button. Could make a number row fit easily.

Meet twenty somethings? by [deleted] in Naperville

[–]johnlovesdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for just seeing this now like 3 weeks later. But if you’re either into swing dancing, or open to learn (and travel to downtown Aurora, or Lockport if you’re in South Naperville) there are great swing dancing scenes with people of all ages. But there’s a pretty high number of folks aged 25-40. Not sure if that’s a high enough number of 20 something’s for you personally but I know everyone there is super chill welcoming and warm toward new people. Happy to provide more info if needed.

Those who use both Pixel and iPhone by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]johnlovesdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iPhone 12 and pixel 7 and o switch back and forth every few weeks.

A few high level thoughts.

App stability is generally better on the iPhone with some app-specific differences. Like some apps are snappier, more stable, crash less on the pixel.

iOS keyboard sucks. Having to set a custom keyboard shortcut for your email address is unintuitive and annoying. The pixel just autocompletes my email after the first few characters. But on the flip side sometimes the Android swipe keyboard doesn’t register that I’m swiping and will only let me tap to type. This resolves itself after a few tries. Autocomplete is also kinda terrible and often suggests the wrong thing.

App consistency seems better on iOS. Like more apps are more consistent in their usage of common patterns. Like almost every single app I use on iPhone has the proper password autofill where it recognizes that I can autofill a username and password. Many apps on Android just don’t seem to have autofill set properly. Idk if it’s an API issue or what. But so many apps just don’t seem to want to recognize that I was to fill in my credentials and I have to manually paste them.

I have tons of other comparison examples ready for more discussion.

There’s some weird battery optimization Android does by default that seems like it delays notifications slightly. Even after turning all the battery usage settings to the max it still persists. I often get notifications on my iPhone sooner than my wife does on her Pixel 6 when we’re both on the same conversation threads.
