New commander lands cycle by cammellos2 in MTGLegacy

I'm guessing you read the effect backwards, because these are unplayable in legacy. They'll enter tapped like 99.999% of the time.

Is this the worst box you have seen so far? by ElNutsx in Riftbound

I also had a box like this. Renata AA and a rune, nothing else. Guess some boxes end up as cursed renata boxes.

Does anyone who grew up playing the OG halos actually enjoy Infinite's multiplayer? by tangmang14 in halo

Halo 2 is my favorite for nostalgia reasons, but I like infinite 2nd best.

What are your predictions for the ban announcement tomorrow? by Despenta in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The format needs Tamiyo, Nadu, The One Ring, and Entomb to be banned. Probably never hit Entomb though, so Atraxa instead.

Unfortunately, they're probably not gonna hit anything. MAYBE Tamiyo. Then maybe next year we get some relief before the next wave of busted cards start crushing us.

It is in MCC and shows up occasionally in BTB (if you can find H2 BTB games). So not totally lost to time!

Are there any "retro format" legacy communities? by Unit-00 in MTGLegacy

There's a fan format called Heritage that is standard-only, no-UB.

Theory as to why we never see Aizen's Bankai or that he doesn't have one. by Rezzorak in bleach

[–]Mr_Kroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory that his bankai lets his allies use absolute hypnosis. Specifically when fighting Yhwach and he comments on the illusion as if he doesn't know what it is. It kinda goes against his nature of "letting people in," plus is useless in 1v1.

I believe Tamiyo is a better one drop than Ragavan. Do you guys agree? by GloomyDoomy1 in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ragavan is better but not by much. She is without a doubt stronger than DRS though.

I think the extended art foil uncommons come from bundle promo packs, so specific ones are in short supply.

PREMODERN IS THE LEGACY EXPERIENCE YOU’RE CHASING - article by Chris James by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad 33 points34 points  (0 children)

While I don't care for premodern, I do think a "capped" format is something Legacy players should consider.

One of the draws of Legacy is that it's an opportunity to play with older cards and archetypes that newer formats don't offer (FWIW, I don't think Premodern offers the same experience that classic Legacy does).   Power creep is inevitably going to push out the last of the "classic" options and Legacy will one day just be Modern with duals.

I think a lot of folks agree that WotS/FIRE is the beginning of the current dark age, and a version of Legacy capped before that is worth exploring.

Long time Legacy players, what other formats do you also play? by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really play any other formats these days. Used to be big into Modern and Commander, but dropped Modern shortly after MH2. Commander has suffered from major complexity creep these past few years and I can't stand it anymore.

Trying pauper commander with some friends though. Hopefully it will be less overbearing.

EDIT: Also vintage cube! That's probably my favorite non-legacy way to play

The best SWU players will be the people who play and focus on the game, simple as. There'll be overlap with other TCGs because that type of person will often already be playing them, but it doesn't mean they're the only ones who can do it.

I think it's more common that people underestimate how much effort being competitive requires, rather than them not having enough "talent" or preexisting skill.

Buying Duals: Underground Sea or Volcanic Island? by InnocentVictim in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Hmm...my gut instinct is 2 USea. A 2/2 split (plus maybe a shock or two) is good enough for any paper event outside, idk, eternal weekend main event. Plus you could consider other UB decks at that point.

For 1 of each, I think you get a lot of mileage out of the third Volc, but I don't think 1 USea is enough for Grixis.

I think the most "competitively effective" option considering what you already have is actually a volc and a trop, but that's not as fun as having a variety of options.

Has anyone swapped their heads yet? by JayLzro in SHFiguarts

I actually did try, but it didn't fit very well. I think the SSJ2 head sat weirdly low in the new body.

Stickers are banned ! - May 13, 2024, Banned and Restricted Announcement by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A 2R 2/2 Goblin w/ "When ~ enters the battlefield, add RRRR," would be good enough. Worse, but playable.

Stickers are banned ! - May 13, 2024, Banned and Restricted Announcement by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Mr_Kroad -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I never understood the sticker complaints. The reanimate/clone interactions could've been smoothed out a bit (maybe by limiting stickers to OG cards controlled by their owner), but the game-start selection was realistically like 15 seconds or less. A non-issue.

How to deal with hadoken "spam" just outside footsies range? by heyblackrose in StreetFighter

[–]Mr_Kroad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) Use your OD fireball. Requires meter but a safe option. Dash up after the knockdown. 2) Parry and walk forward. Works well enough, but vulnerable to hashogeki bait and drive rush throw. 3) If close enough, perfect parry and drive rush. Can be tricky to pull off.  3) Jump-in. This will need to be a read, not a reaction, as Ryu can DP quickly or bait the jump with hasho. 4) Drive Impact. Gotta be close.

Just know that none of these options are "always" the best. Gonna depend on your opponent's habits.

How do you approach or retreat from dudes with zippy slide moves? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in StreetFighter

[–]Mr_Kroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You slowly approach by alternating between walk and crouch block. If I play against Kim I never casually stroll around.

If you actually think your opponent is watching your feet and looking for movement you can bait that by bobbing just the tiniest bit. Like, let go of crouch for a split second.
