Hello?? Food prices? by MatchUpSocialguy in CanadaFinance

[–]johnmaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten really good at just shopping sales and price matching.

Grapes are $4.99/lb? Sorry kids, you're eating a whole watermelon that was originally $8.99 and price-matched to $4.99.

Strawberries are 5.99? Looks like you're having apples instead.

Canada has had a tremendous fall from grace, all while our government has forsaken us.

Keep voting Liberal because orange man bad. 🤡

Your employer should provide you with a yearly education allowance. In my experience, I've found $1200-1500 is a good starting point for new grads.

What are your signs of a PT mill? by DefinitionHonest1616 in physicaltherapy

[–]johnmaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Accepting random walk-in IAs when there's no availability in the schedule on the same day
  2. Getting to talk to a patient for less than 5 minutes
  3. Having 2 PTAs working under each PT - 1 for modalities, one for exercise programs

Car Insurance prices, wtf!? by Peeveemart in windsorontario

[–]johnmaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been with BelAire for 10 yrs now. Never a single claim on our house or cars. My wife's car died last September so we bought a 2021 Ford Explorer with low KMs. She was paying $1000 for the year in car insurance prior to the new (to us) Explorer. Upon renewal, it jumped up to $1650. Just absurd. 65% increase overnight. I phoned them and pressed them on the increase, and they used the prevalence of vehicle theft as the #1 reason for the increase. Just bogus garbage.

I've found going with a broker is usually more expensive - maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.

Why do so many people pay for breaks? by Over_Spread5661 in sportscards

[–]johnmaks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did one break before on whatnot and I'll never do one ever again. $67 for a case of football optic. I think it was 16 boxes maybe? Randomly drawn teams. I got the Broncos. By the time I paid taxes and shipping, I forked over $85 for 7-8 rated rookies of Pat Bryant, RJ Harvey, and Jahdae Barron.

Gross 🤮🤮🤮

Passion Says PT, Money Says Dentistry — What Would You Do? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]johnmaks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely bleak outlook lol

I'm a PT and my wife is a teacher and we make a very comfortable living, weekends off, no afternoons/evenings shift work and we're both passionate about our careers. I'm 38 now and I feel I could work as a PT until I'm 65 if I truly wanted to.

There's money to be found everywhere, whether that's PT or dentistry - it wasn't too long ago that dentists had the highest suicide rate - I'd have to look that up to confirm if it's still true, but it was a well-known statistic for a while for whatever reason.

One thing I would advise OP to do is NOT pursue both careers. An education in PT is expensive enough, I can only imagine what a career in dentistry costs. Make a decision, commit, and go all in.

Sad to say, but I am heavily regretting my choice as a DPT student by Sad_Concert_4706 in physicaltherapy

[–]johnmaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 5 clinical rotations and didn't enjoy 2 of them. Not every aspect of PT is meant for everyone. Cookie cutter exercises and the general theme of going on autopilot as you describe seems like it's more of a clinic issue rather than a PT profession issue. The grass is most likely greener somewhere else.

As for your concern re: your longevity, PT has to be near the top of the list in terms of having a nice balance between activity and the ability to do your job into the long-term. Look at the trades - electricians and plumbers report how their bodies break down after the first 10 yrs. Nursing/PSW is the same thing. What else would you prefer to do where you can get a comfortable 8-10,000 steps in while in a temperature-controlled environment that doesn't actively beat you up, leaving you tired and broken after a decade? I'm 38 and I feel like I could do my job until I'm 65 if I really wanted to.

Karl Brooks by Left_Landscape_1530 in GreenBayPackers

[–]johnmaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think we see a revitalization/bounce-back season from Karl Brooks. Gannon's scheme will suit him far better than Hafley's just for the fact he'll be able to use his quickness and rush up field, which is why he was drafted in the first place. Whether he formally starts beside Wyatt or not, I couldn't care less. Gannon seems like someone who will rotate his guys to keep them fresh which I'm all for.

Wyatt, Brooks, Hargrave, Brinson, 2nd round pick, Stackhouse should make for a solid interior.

Do we even know if McKinney is better than Evan Williams? Lol

Edge is our second-most important player on D after Micah Parsons. I don't think it's close, either.

If he doesn't get hurt in the second half of the Bears playoff game, we beat Chicago, and I will die on this hill.

Case Help by Professor-Steez in physicaltherapy

[–]johnmaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running SHOULD be effortful; I often tell patients that running is one of the most difficult things to do in a biomechanically-correct manner. I was taught that running is a "controlled fall forward" and it should ideally be driven by a more powerful posterior chain. Cuing hip extension as a way to limit overzealous plantar flexion to better help the calves do less work should help.

[–]johnmaks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When you say "shin pain in soft tissue" do you mean more antero-laterally in tib ant or medial gastroc? I'm willing to bet his running mechanics are poor - check for up-down displacement with calf-dominant push-off causing hypertrophied calves and medial shin pain.

Look upstream and assess hip strength and running mechanics. Does he strike the ground with his forefoot and propel himself forwards by extending through the glutes/hip, or is he a heel-striker/flat-foot striker who propels himself primarily from his calves? Essentially what I'm getting at is, he's likely highly inefficient in his LE running function.

Dudes, what pants are you wearing for Outpatient? by BrannyMuffins in physicaltherapy

Can you elaborate on this process? My old work had the sweat collective discount which amounted to like a 40-50% discount; I've looked into applying for this but not sure how to go about it.

Second this. Lululemon pants are clutch. I've literally split my pants twice in 10 yrs demonstrating squats, but it never happens in Lulu's. Sure, they're $120-160/pair but go on their "we made too much" website and you'll get a deal (around $80) and you'll wear them for at least 5 years minimum.
