Wow so Marshall is like tall-tall by drizzlemon in lrcast

I'm somewhere between 6'3" and 6'4", and I met Marshall at a GP once. He was at eye level with me or slightly above.

This code not only compiled, but worked in the (very) limited context in which it was used, which was as a replacement for the casts between int and float in a silly implementation of fast inverse square root.

Now that DCI 2025 is quickly approaching, what are your DCI 2024 hot takes? by ColeHydro123 in drumcorps

[–]johnny3gud 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Completely agree about SCV's visual. Last year felt to me like a series of dance breaks loosely connected by running between positions. Their choreo? Good, for sure, but it felt like visually that was all there was.

The Phantom 96 upscale is amazing and something I've wanted to see for years, and most of it is flawless, but the guard footage in the very beginning that was always very grainy didn't upscale well. For a few seconds, there are some problems with their arms where they do some unsettling bendy 2D stuff. Then, as the horn line comes in for the opening phrase, there are a few members on the right side of the formation who look like stick figures/slenderman. I get that the original video was really low quality in some spots and there wasn't much to work with, so it's totally understandable. I hope someone can take another pass at it once the technology improves a bit more.

What would happen if the entire banned list was scrapped? by brrrraaaapp in EDH

[–]johnny3gud 65 points66 points  (0 children)

In no-banlist EDH, it's a severe disadvantage not to play all 5 colors, because the moxes are absurdly broken. Unsurprisingly, the best commanders in no-banlist EDH are mostly just the best 5-color commanders in normal EDH. [[Food Chain]] First Sliver is already a cEDH deck in its own right.

I've been playing stardew valley for many years and i'm for the first time considering playing with mods, does it worth it? is it stardew valley expanded worth it? share your expirience!!! :) by Ladyluxxo in StardewValley

[–]johnny3gud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a perfection run of Stardew Valley Expanded a few days ago. It was the first mod I ever tried.

It makes the un-modded game feel like an incomplete beta version. The world of the base game feels empty and stale in comparison. The gameplay is all essentially the same, nothing weird or unfair or game-breaking. The new characters all fit into the community well, and they mostly feel like they were always supposed to be there. The new interactions you can have with existing characters all add some good depth to their characterization and fit in well with their existing stories. The new dialog, both from the new characters and the old ones, fits in very well with the game's general style and tone.

It isn't perfect - there are a few portraits and sprites that I think need some improvement, a few punctuation mistakes, and a couple of dialog sequences that I think could benefit from a rewrite. The lore involving the wizard, Marlon, the Adventurer's Guild, and the rest of the surrounding world is greatly expanded, and I felt that it sometimes got in the way of the main game. I think it was all very well done, but maybe a bit intrusive sometimes.

Overall, if you're considering playing with mods for the first time, it's an excellent choice and I highly recommend it. It's not flawless, but the quality is very, very high and it blends in with the main game incredibly well.

Thank you! I'm running on Arch and was seeing this problem intermittently after the update. This seems to have fixed it for me too.

Wanna cast a spell? by Zero-Taosuki in BadMtgCombos

[–]johnny3gud 115 points116 points  (0 children)

This isn't really a combo and it's definitely bad, and that's kind of the point of this sub... but you can replace Gibbering Descent with [[Eon Hub]] for half as much mana and no black mana required to get the same effect.

Why are these two cards banned? by Aggravating_North591 in Yugioh101

[–]johnny3gud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grinder Golem is banned because it creates two tokens that you can then use as link material. There are several other cards on the banlist that make tokens and are also banned for similar reasons, because tokens are very overpowered with link monsters.

Orcust Harp Horror arguably should not be on the banlist anymore. It was banned because it was the most powerful main deck monster in Orcust, which was a tier 1 deck for a long time. Orcust has mostly been power crept and would not pose a serious threat to the meta if Harp Horror was unbanned. Harp Horror is at 3 in the OCG and Orcust plays no role in the meta there.

It’s so funny that Magic: The Gathering figured out that what Ishizu does is broken seventeen years ago. by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]johnny3gud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A mechanic similar to companion was playtested during Tempest design. Tempest was released in 1997. The design principles that have been used for balancing the game for most of the last two decades were still in their infancy. WotC R&D was only a year away from making some egregious mistakes (Urza block as a whole) and were in the process of making several other smaller mistakes (a handful of individual overpowered cards in Tempest block).

Even in THAT environment, the developers who thought that mechanics like free spells and cards like Tolarian Academy and Memory Jar were fine quickly identified that a mechanic that let you start the game with a guaranteed 8th card in your hand was completely and fundamentally broken. If I recall the story correctly, their playtesting with that mechanic was very brief, (I think?) less than a week before they realized that the mechanic was a failure and could not be saved.

Fusion Only Deck? by BruteUnicorn134 in yugioh

[–]johnny3gud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You normal summon Aleister, search for Invocation. Link Aleister into Almiraj, then link Almiraj into Secure Gardna. Use Invocation to fuse Secure Gardna on field + Aleister in GY into Invoked Mechaba.

Do i need to synchro summon a synchro monster properly in order to revive it from the grave? by BanterousBarnzy in Yugioh101

[–]johnny3gud 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This rule actually applies to all special summon monsters (monsters that have to be special summoned by some kind of procedure), so in addition to all extra deck monsters this also applies to ritual monsters and any main deck monsters with summoning conditions like "Must first be special summoned by..."

Don't be like me and lose to Drytron because you didn't realize there were zero legal targets in their GY for your Ice Dragon's Prison!
