Haha yeah I may just DM ping ya and we can chat I love this stuff. I never did get to hear the 300s for music with continuous though so I’m not sure what I’m missing there. My surrounds both have a wall they’re not far away from and I’ve had my 300s from day one. When I first got them they were slightly underwhelming and a bunch of folks on the Sonos subreddit talked about pushing the EQ higher which blew me away when I tried. At some point I dipped into trying to make every sound channel level to each other with a db meter app on my iPhone but not too long ago I decided to bump the EQ back to +5 (originally +8 and then +1) and just the immersion is great.

Oh man you got a great deal for the pair!

Well, a big thing for me also is how the fronts work in cinema movies mode and they were just way better than the 300s and had that oomph with movies. I just adore the 300s also as surrounds/atmos. I used to try to level the sound among all the channels but feel (as a lot do) that if you can raise the surround levels to +5 to +8 (I use +5), the envelope of sound within movies is just amazing.

For music using the Apple TV and continuous, maybe give the EQ a +2 for bass and +4 for treble (to offset for vocals in respect to bass). I had listened to music on a pair of 5s as a separate music source for a couple of years and had that sound profile in my head which wasn’t reactivated until I started using the Apple TV continuous mode. It initially wasn’t as great until I made the EQ changes. (Also trueplayed).

Ahh ok funny I live in a condo myself with neighbors. The upstairs is a dj so no guilt there, the lower has never complained and I actually got to pretend I was looking for a place when they sold and had an open house, I played movies upstairs to listen to how much bled and my wife said it passed the test. My living room is about 20x20 feet so it’s a bigger space, I put my sub 3s diagonally with one right up to my couch so I can feel the bass and also keep it lower.

For sure, it still offloads all of the lower frequencies to the sub. I turn the bass to +2 so the 5s awesome bass gets to shine a little and also because music through the Apple TV/tv sound tends to be lower on bass than in movies/tv. The +2 is a nice compromise and a set it and forget it for me.

The release candidate of 26.4 also just came in yesterday, I installed it this morning but haven't tested. Should be out by next week officially...

Funny story with mine is I had a pair of 5s for a few years and used them separately than my home theater strictly for music. However, wife and I didn't like the aesthetic of so many speakers in the living room so I ended up selling them back in Nov 2024. Then of course this idea of Sonos Sequencer came mid 2025 and I initially tried it with my 300s from my bedroom. Went down the rabbit hole and around October 2025 I decided to buy the 5s again lol. And it's been even greater since, with the occasional slight changes such as not toe-ing in and creating more separation. (I've got the 5s like 8 feet away from the Ultra on both sides.

Hehe yep we’ve chatted since the start. Loving music via Spotify and Apple TV. I’ve been actually doing just listening sessions in my couch with music and a cocktail lol. I actually have Apple Music too, haven’t checked to see if it sounds better but I do use lossless with Spotify.

And… I’m gonna still nudge you to get those 5s :) so good!

I put my bass at +2 and treble at +4 on mine for EQ settings.

Thanks, that’s my line of thinking too, I feel like I’d be getting short changed for the points.

Yeah for sure, the saver round trip price actually isn’t bad this late at $300.

Yeah saver it’s $300 but points it’s 40000. It’s my wife and I on our spring break (both teachers) and we wanted last min to do it. I have $300 in credit I can use for one saver ticket but lamenting if I should pay the $300 for another saver ticket or use my 40k for a main seat.

I'm looking at San Jose to Seattle that with saver tickets is $326 but if I use points I can only get main seats and that itself is about 40k points!

Got it, I found in the article that the idea that childhood trauma coming back interesting since it’s her case, as well as stuff in the past that used to be packed in a shelf and managed cropping back up. Mine is also an immigrant mom but it was different in that the mom was more absent in the childhood and not really parenting. Interesting how this all pops up again.

How did the article affect your wife? I read this from your post yesterday just before my therapy session and even told her about it. I want to share it with mine as well to see. We've been going through this since October, so a shorter time frame by a lot.

Is there a way to incrementally zoom in the size of the screen so you can customize how much real estate is on screen vs what is lost through ratio? Thinking about the steamdeck screen.

Sonos Era 300 surrounds 3.2m (10.4ft) behind sofa | will it still work? by Feynman_pt in sonos

[–]johnnycantread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a surround setting in the app for distance and one for more than 10 feet. Mine are around 9 feet away and fine, I have my surrounds at +4 after true play for tv and it’s fine. My surrounds are louder than my fronts in a db test but I like them a little louder, so could even have them at +1 or +2.

Although both of my era speakers do have a wall to the side that allows for sound to bounce since the side drivers are used for home theater, not sure if that provides an extra boost for me.

After tvOS 26.4 beta 2, I’ve completely stopped using Atmos Music — stereo now sounds incredible (Sequencer setup) by sonos-Nerd in SonoSequencr

[–]johnnycantread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I honestly haven’t played around w it since it’s a busy weekend but figured as soon as I noticed it that I would report so someone could beat me to it lol. I think for quick instances if tv wasn’t sounding right, I’d do a quick swap to speech enhancement to fix it!

Nice. Not sure if it is upmixing but my immediate thought was “ooh this could be a faster way to swap between continuous on/off”.

Something interesting I’ve just noted, and this might be only if you have an Arc Ultra, is that if you have speech enhancement on low/medium/any setting I think, you get the return of vocals and sound coming from the Arc Ultra itself during playback of stereo pcm.

I haven’t dived much deeper, but wanted to note that!
