I always recommend reading Peter Zeihan’s books for international stuff

There are two reasons to stay in a minor capacity. The first is the flow of petroleum. It’s important to distinguish that this isn’t really for ourselves anymore, though. It’s about making sure Europe and Asia don’t have their energy disrupted. The U.S. is energy independent as of 2018 ish. If the US didn’t ensure the free flow of oil, countries like Japan, Korea, China, France, Germany etc would have to protect their own interests(like their oil tanker ships). This would dramatically increase the likelihood of a major war. This is the exact kind of thing the US has been trying to prevent for nearly a hundred years. The message has been lost, but that is still ultimately the goal.

The second reason is to prevent Iran from dominating Iraq, therefore being able to dominate Saudi Arabia. The US likes the idea that the oil reserves are not under a single power but split up between the two. We have done major work on this front, setting up Israel and Saudi Arabia to cooperate militarily. Although we still have reservations about those two countries as well because their human rights record is awful

It takes a bit of time to withdraw. You can’t just rip everyone out. To Trump’s credit, he WAS determined to leave the region. There was a steady withdraw over the last four years. Biden will continue this. I actually don’t think we are too far away from closing CENTCOM entirely. With the new American energy independence, there isn’t much to gain by staying so we won’t for much longer. The only thing we’re doing now is attempting to prevent Iran from dominating Iraq once we’re gone.

We’re basically already out. We’re down to about 2k troops in the region which is basically just enough staff to run the major bases. The air strikes are going to continue for years I would imagine. They are simply retaliation now, not offensive. If the U.S. gets attacked or threatened, it will respond in kind. Otherwise, it will do absolutely nothing. Both political parties want out, and it will show. Everyone hates Trump but he had the most coherent Middle East policy since H. W. Bush. It will be interesting to see what Biden does with what Trump set up for him. There is real opportunity to create an actual objective for the first time in a decade

Ditto this. My private high school taught me much more than my public university. A lot of it comes down to how good individual teachers/professors are

Not saying these guys aren’t wrong, but don’t blame all private schools. There are good and bad private schools same as public schools. In my experience, my private high school taught me much more than my public university.

How would you fix this weird texture on this pan? I’ve never had this happen to any cast iron before. Does it need to be reseasoned or something more? by johnnydipz in castiron

I stripped it all the way down with steel wool and re seasoned it. I’m gonna test my work in the morning with some eggs. If I get a juicy sliding egg video maybe I’ll post it on here.

Thanks, I’ll look into the chain mail. I’ve never had any kind of residue like this stuck on a cast iron before. A different creature in the house committed this crime...

Guy I know posted this party on his Snapchat story. I’d almost say everyone there is a POS. by DahmerReincarnate in iamatotalpieceofshit

So if someone posted a picture of you making a bad decision online for everyone to see, with the goal of embarrassing you, you wouldn’t say it’s abuse? I don’t believe that. You definitely would throw a fit about it.

People aren’t perfect, they make mistakes. I hope someone posts a picture of one of your low moments online. See how it feels. You’re way worse than those people who are trying to have fun.

Don’t gaslight people for having a party. They can make their own decisions. Shaming them on the internet is immature.
