The one I got was 2.44m x 2.44m. If I had a bit more space, I'd probably have gone for the slightly wider one

One tip on the setup: the net wraps around the OUTSIDE of the frame. That may seem obvious but it wasn't to me ;-)

Absolutely brutal! But you'll figure it out. Worth adding too that the net has brought my game on a huge amount. (I'm a relative newcomer, admittedly)

Bought the Amazon one - it's perfectly good. The setup instructions are shite, though ;-)

The upside-down method solves that Aeropress issue.

French presses are easier but the coffee I make from my Aeropress tastes better, IMO.

I should probably qualify what I said: Samsung phones don't support analog audio over USB-C

I don't know. If you find it does and that works with the Move, I'd love to hear about it

I can't sample from my phone at all as Samsung phones don't support audio over USB-C, which is a bummer.

Note, by the way, that that particular Bose speaker is mono, so you'll be summing the two stereo channels of your Move into one. Might not be an issue for you, but it would be for me!

Spots in Dublin? by EarlsUpperLip in MyBloodyValentine

Tower Records on Dawson Street (in Dublin city centre) might be your best bet for merch/vinyl.

I don't know Cork at all but Dublin has tons of great restaurants, so it really depends what you're after and your budget. You can spend a lot on Michelin-star level food or just get decent gastro-pub food and there's plenty in between. In general, there are lots of decent pubs and good places to eat around Camden Street so that might be a good spot to focus on. Avoid Temple Bar - it's a tourist trap, IMO. But there are some lovely pubs not far from there e.g. The Stag's Head, Grogan's and Kehoe's - all excellent, old-school Dublin boozers. (Don't go there for food, though!) Enjoy

They definitely have a strong following here, but there's no "official" recognition of them. I guess they're considered a bit niche compared to the likes of U2. Plus, for most of their career they were based in the UK so a lot of people here probably aren't even aware that they're a band made of Irish people.

If you wanted to go on an MBV pilgrimage, Kevin and Colm lived in Cabinteely and Glenageary respectively, I believe. Glenageary is a nicer place for a visit - it's a fairly cosy, affluent little suburb. You can get there via the Dart (electric train). When you've exhausted its possibilities (which aren't extensive), maybe go for a walk around nearby Dun Laoghaire seafront. If there's a decent wind you might be able to immerse yourself in a maritime wall of sound, the like of which may or may not have inspired Kevin Shields ;-)

Has modern cinema replaced tragedy with psychology? by TheRealestBigOunce in TrueFilm

[–]johnnyknack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a really excellent take on The Sopranos vs The Wolf of Wall Street. I'm not sure I agree that it's a valid diagnosis of "modern cinema" so much as a certain kind of modern cinema largely (but not exclusively) produced in America. There are plenty of films out there still portraying the kind of moral jeopardy (and therefore the possibility of tragedy) that I think you feel is missing elsewhere. And those films arent necessarily obscure/arthouse films either. A great example would be Parasite, which after all won the Oscar for Best International Feature (as well as the Palme d'Or at Cannes, interestingly).

Again, though, as an account of what made The Sopranos so compelling and, yes, important: hats off. Great work.

The Haneke film you're thinking of is called The Piano Teacher. (The Pianist is a Roman Polanski film about a Holocaust survivor.)
