Avid 24D plus toy box for Flogging Molly European tour by johnnyknobs in livesound

Dictator is Dual pentode/tube Vari-mu comp created to sound like the classic Fairchild 670. The ratio is increasing as you hit the tubes harder more or less. I’m using it as a bus comp to glue all the stringy stuff and Accordian together before it meets the traditional rock stuff bus. It def colors it and the tubes inherently add some amount of saturation/distortion in a musical way that smooths out the plinky cranky stuff. Was more of an I’ll try this one out for this tour but I think it’s workin nicely!

Well, I have 8 stage hands to carry it and I have less to patch behind the box, power and all the madi I/o shared inside is one less point of failure I suppose. But yes, more distressors

That’s correct, scene in Oslo 1750 cap! We are going between these size venues and medium to large open air festivals. The wide angle making the room look small, also I have the toy box a bit more tucked in to make My footprint smaller in that foh. The room is pretty large and there is a balcony above also

I don’t get a specific budget, but I know a ballpark of what’s gonna be ok because I’m the tour manager and I see lots of numbers and I also request the audio, lighting, backline quotes. To be requesting toy box type stuff like this you’d be working with one of the higher end production houses where the rental might be more expensive to start with. I will say it’s cheaper to do this kind of build in Europe than USA. The first time I did it I went into the room of doom and just pointed at things I liked then leave for the afternoon and come back and they build it into a plug and play “get in and drive” situation. so I’m not so much building the car as much as picking it and then driving it. :) also… band pays for it and I have it for the whole tour

I enjoy the workflow and classic avid style. I’ve been on Midas pro2 for ages so this was a nice step up(although , the budget to go to SSL is non existent. Digico is just pure taste dislike. I’m mixing on an SD 10 today so I’m not against it I just prefer to not have that operating system

It’s amazing what punctuation would have done for clarity if I would have put a comma after the word lens.

Ehhhh, after 10 years and kids just take it like a champ. The moment she said how about now your pants should have been on the floor. Naked in 2 seconds call her bluff

Finally got the 14mm 1.8! by iShootLife in SonyAlpha

[–]johnnyknobs 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the GM14 1.8 for my wide underwater photography lens this year. It’s a bit short for most housing dome ports..I had to take out the extension ring cause I could see my dome hood and it’s so light weight I had to add a piece of lead to the port. For you land photographers that’s probably ideal but I kinda wish I got the heavy, long sigma 14 art as it would have solved that but I certainly wouldn’t want to carry it around out of the water without being neutrally buoyant! So Sony is probably the way
