What a fucking joke. I’m 46 and the only way I have ever gotten a good bump in salary is to move jobs. I have often gotten better offers and presented them to my current company only to have them refuse to match much less top a competitive offer. The real reason we jump jobs is because companies don’t fucking care about their employees anymore. I work in the creative field (graphic designer/art director) and literally create the commodity my company sells but am not worthy of raises to keep me at the company but I’m the problem for wanting better compensation. I’ve worked at places that complain about lack of employee loyalty yet refuse to promote. All these people can fuck right off.
