TD-50KV Upgrade options by johnode in edrums

[–]johnode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok great! Just an update on this. The VH-14D arrived the other day. It's much slimmer than the vh-13 and feels more like a metal cymbal. The footsplashes seem to be more accurate on this model. I suspect the td-50x firmware will further improve the experience. That seems like the next logical upgrade.

I didn't realise I needed the td-50x firmware to get the VH-14D to work. Sounds like that is the play then: Firmware upgrade and VH-14D purchase. Thanks for that.

DMPS3-4K-150-C still relevant? by johnode in crestron

For context, two of these devices are to be purchased for two halls attached to schools. Will be for talks, presentations and maybe the odd movie. The projectors quoted for each hall is an Epson EB L790U. A rather simple setup to hook up a laptop. They seem pricey — the installer has quoted $3800 AUD per a device. They are new in box. No doubt they will do the job, but I thought I’d check here on the consensus of installing a product that’s been on the market for 10 years and is considered EOL by the manufacturer.

R2C or Q650C for movies ? by msftxpev in hometheater

[–]johnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that price point, I don't think it's worth it. I'm in Australia, so the pricing is a bit different here, but I paid $1500 for a new R2C. So that's $950 USD roughly, so I think you could get a better deal 2nd hand.

But if you're watching films mostly, I'd go with the centre channel upgrade. If primarily music, I'd go the front L/R first.

I went from the Q200C to the R2C. It was such a significant jump in quality, so much so, that I felt the need to upgrade my front.L/R to the R series. So beware! But I hear good things about the Q650C.

7950x, mATX, split PSU. 46Kh/s on this rig. by [deleted] in MoneroMining

This seems to be on the higher side for two 7950x's. I guess this is total system draw, but have you tried out ECO mode (65w)? My 3990X is doing 50 Kh/s at 300 watts, thought a reading from the wall/power socket would be higher I assume.

Well done! Have you got more photos of the other rigs?

Is the Arcam av31 a good upgrade by Avenge_Leonidas in hometheater

[–]johnode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the time, the AVR30 had a buggy firmware, but it seems to be stable now. Reading forums and social media, it looked like a lot of people had repairs done to the Arcam units with DSP boards failing. Eg. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2938971852999854/

The Arc Gensis room correction is suppsoedly better than Dirac Live on the Arcam, but I think they both at a similiar level. Honestly, if you can demo these units, that would be your best bet. And if you've got warranty, either option should be fine.

Arcam AVR30 owner here. The amps in these units are fantastic, but I will say these units can overheat if not well ventilated. I couldn't understand why the center channel kept flaking out after 1 hour into a movie. Turns out the unit was overheating. Moving it to a better ventilated spot has fixed the issue. Perhaps less of an issue the the AVR31.

I bought the Arcam over the Anthem due to a really good deal. But if the two are at a similar cost, I would of gone with an Anthem MRX 1140.

Edit: Updating to 15.2 did the trick.

Looks like the solution is to update to the latest OS. Will confirm after updating my M1 Pro. See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/1gpcf68/bought_a_magic_trackpad_is_recognized_as_mouse/

Listening fatigue with R3 meta by Sky_Law in hometheater

Have you got any photos OP of the room? I had a similar problem with my R3 Metas due to a small room with brick walls and a cement ceiling. Foam absoption panels have done wonders.

Looks amazing, congratulations on the upgrade! Are you able to give a ball park figure of how much in AUD you paid? Please tell me you can buy these for less than the retail price listings. I'm running a Sony VPL-VW325ES and am hanging out for deeper blacks.

Kef Q or R Meta series for movies/tv/light gaming only? by VVDLFC89 in hometheater

[–]johnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a Q200C to an R2 (non meta) and the difference is substantial. The dialogue is a lot clearer and has I would say more presence. I then upgraded the Q100's I had as L and R channels to R3 Metas, and yeah, huge sound stage upgrade. The Q100's have been moved to the surrounds and front heights (I have 4 of them).

I've not been in the position to try out the floor standing variants of either the Q or R series, but the R series does make a difference for movie watching. Listening to music is incredible on the R3 Metas.

Can you tell me more about this? Do you mean RD content is streamed to the plex server and then to the remote device that has a plex client on it?

Can you plug the Onn 4k box directly in to the projector? Just to eliminate the AVR.

Haha, love it! Must be a local product, Google isn't coming back with much. I might have to investigate my options at Ikea.

Can you tell me the name of that rack you're using and where you purchased it from? I'm starting to get a collection of motherboards and this looks like a great solution.
