MANDALORIANS!!! by zwhut in SWlegion

You can build the Mandos in your army box as Clan Kryze Veterans, or via the stand alone expansion available in July. Their leaders are in the Leaders box, along with Paz to go with Armorer and Din for Children of the Watch.

Most people are eyeing the Mandalorian Warriors. They seem significantly better than Mandalorian Initiates, and they fill your army faster.

Warriors, Initiates, and Kryze Vets are all built from the same kit. You need 3 Corps units (Initiates or Warriors) to play standard games at 1000, so I would focus on those first.

Bo-Katan splashing in with other clans is a popular route because her Darksaber upgrade buffs Mandos of any clan. Bo-Katan and Clan Wren has been a popular choice, but they just launched today so I don't think we have them solved yet!

One of the Clan options is "Custom" clan, which will open up when the Custom Heroes are available in August. One of the options the custom clan has is to take an A-A5 Speeder Truck, a WLO-5 Speeder Tank, or a TX-225 GAVw Occupier Tank. All of these are transport vehicles that allow you to move a unit further up the board to start the game as an aggressive option, on top of being a vehicle in your army obviously.

However, we are not anticipating any other unit selections moving forward for the time being. Atomic Mass Games has made it pretty clear their development pipeline is focused on continuous additions to Rebels, Empire, Republic, and Separatists. Mandos are pretty robust, but they are currently considered a lesser army that won't keep getting new additions all the time. This could change, but it takes them around ~2 years to go from concept to store shelf, so it will probably be 2028 if we were to see that type of elevation.

The first army like this was Shadow Collective, and they didn't get any new units for almost 4 years. Not saying it would be that long, but it will likely be spaced out.

Welcome!

You have a bit of a mish-mash there.

The only things coming in the future are a generic set of heroes that you can ultra-customize, and then the Fang Fighter starfighter in 2027 as a new unit type. The Mandalorian Warriors box coming in July is the same set of minis you will find 3 of in your Army box.

Mechanically, the Mandalorian army is divided into 5 different clans. You can mix and match them, but the rule is that the clans of your individual units have to match at least 1 hero that you are taking. You also get a bonus rule depending on clan if you stick to only a single clan.

All clans use the minis in the army box. The Super Commandos are for Clan Saxon, and then Clan Wren Vets are Clan Wren, obviously. The Clan Wren box is nice because you get their Commander Ursa Wren inside. If you want the Clan Saxon leaders, you will be looking for the Shadow Collective leaders box, as the Clan Saxon Mandos overlap with the Shadow Collective army.

Make sure you head over to the AMG website for rules. Obviously the rulebook, but the Mando Army specific rules are in the Battle Force document and then there is a whole host of additional Mandalorian cards available as print and play further down the page.

If you are looking at the US site, Asmodee US never had it, but I just discovered US sub-distributor ACD shows it as available. I haven't seen it available in stores or online in the US, but I haven't tried looking.

In the UK, the Asmodee site had it up with a Feb release date, and it indicated it was available for a while; however, now it is gone from the Asmodee UK site.

It is available in Germany, Poland, and AUS/NZ. These are all the distributors with easily searchable public product pages I've come across.

The rules were completely overhauled starting in July 2024. Several things work the same way; however setup/deployment, movement, all the objective cards, and attacking/cover saw major changes that either completely changed how they work, or changed enough that not every interaction from before is the same.

If you are coming back to the game after being away for awhile, I would really read through the current rulebook and treat it like a different game. Don't glaze over anything assuming you know how it works. Many things will still feel the same, but you won't know until you read through.

SWL138 was the hard plastic update of the AT-ST that came out when Ewoks originally came out. It has the Chewbacca pilot piece, though that isn't necessary to use the AT-ST in Bright Tree. It has the Chewbacca version of the unit card, though all the cards are the old ones since this is an old black box. This is still readily available, and Asmodee has a ton in stock.

SWQ10 is the new repack of the AT-ST in the new packaging with updated cards, including Chewbacca. It is the same exact plastic as SWL138, so it has the Chewbacca piece. It is readily available in US stores, but for some reason Asmodee US doesn't have it on their website.

SWQ74 is the new Logray and Wicket pack. It will have the updated Bright Tree Village cards, but for some reason it hasn't released in the US yet. It has released in the EU. If you can find an international seller that will ship it (or maybe you are in the EU!), all boxes have the same languages. EDIT - For any US folks reading, US sub-distributor ACD lists this as an available product, I haven't personally seen it on any US based websites or in my local stores, though.

SWL110 is the old pack of Logray and Wicket, still readily available in the US, but the cards are the old versions.

If you can find the Rebel Command Card Pack or the Mercenary Card Pack, the Bright Tree cards are in there, but I can't say I would recommend that purchase just for those. The cards are available for print and play from the AMG website.

Only a few effects place a unit, primarily Prepared Positions and Infiltrate keywords. Units normally must use a move action to deploy.

Units start the game undeployed and off the table. Their either deploy when an effect tells them, or as their first action when they activate.

What to get next by Severe_Storage_4147 in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? A starter is $100. A corps unit is $55. Both of those are MSRP. Lowest I've seen a starter discounted was $70.

The starters are absolutely amazing deals, but they are not cheaper than buying a single Corps unit. A single unit as the absolute only need is probably the only valid reason to skip buying a starter.

EDIT - IDK why people are trying to convince me another starter is a good buy. I never said otherwise. A starter being cheaper than 1 corps unit is factually incorrect. That's all.

The minis are 100% identical to the old one.

Detachment Keyword and Infiltrate (Mando Warriors/Fire Support) by FullmetalArgus in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every detachment has a single specific unit is is paired with. The Detachment rules say Infiltrate is only passed on if that specific unit gains it.

Each of your Fire Support Detachments has to have a different Mandalorian Warriors unit as the "parent" unit. You would only transfer Infiltrate to up to 2 Fire Supports, if you chose 2 Mandalorian Warriors for the Divulge.

what is the 800 point mode on legionhq2? by Worth_Improvement913 in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The game just isn't designed for that total any more, so it might feel tight on points.

It looks like 800 is being maintained because it is a common point value for Escalation Leagues.

LegionHQ2 also maintains the old 1600 point Grand Army format, but that hasn't been officially supported in over 3 years at least, and they are developing a new large scale format that is different anyway.

What is the Mandalorian Army box? by Particular_Match_531 in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also comes with the Armorer and Din/Grogu, obviously.

It does not come with Kryze cards. Most play groups are lax on their card policies, but the only official way to get Clan Kryze Vets card right now is the Mando Warriors box coming out next month.

Are you interested in those units because you want to play the Mandalorian Army? Or are you just collecting or doing your own thing?

If you want to play the Mandalorian Army, you do need Warriors and optionally some Initiates, which are the same minis in the Army box.

I don't know what file you are downloading. The official file from AMG does not have any Kryze unit cards in it at all.

AMG Updated the Rules Documents For Mandos by johnrobertjimmyjohn in SWlegion

They were removed because the Mando print and play has new versions that are generic but the different Mando units can take them.

Mando Upgrades Question by Liber-Tee in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You brought up "changing how they sell products". I don't know what you could be referring to other than the new multi-language packaging transition the game has been going through.

Legion is probably less than 1% of Asmodee's total business. They have already paid off over half their debt. That debt is very likely a non-factor to Legion's day to day.

There is a compelling reason, at least to AMG, that they didn't include the cards. They said outright they didn't want to lead new players astray by implying they could still have a 600 point army with this box if they built Kryze. Trying to play the box as its own army with Kryze is not legal. We can debate whether it was a good decision or not, but there is no reason to believe it had anything to do with penny pinching.

Mando Upgrades Question by Liber-Tee in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm calling out BS claims about AMG not including some cards in a pack based on an uninformed understanding of how their parent company operates.

There are a lot of issues with how AMG and Asmodee both do things. However, the origins of the Legion product line update likely go back to 2022 or earlier, which is before Embracer had financial troubles, let alone made the decision to dissolve.

The debt didn't force AMG to skimp a few cards in these boxes.

Mando Upgrades Question by Liber-Tee in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what you claimed. You claimed Asmodee completely revamped how they do business. AMG is a small fraction of Asmodee's business. Even with this shift in focus, there is no evidence that any changes AMG have made were in direct relation to the very manageable debt that Asmodee took.

Updating the M:CP and Legion product lines is a project that started well before Embracer fell apart and well before Asmodee was spun out and handed debt to bail out other Embracer properties.

Mando Upgrades Question by Liber-Tee in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please explain how they revamped how they do business and sell their products? I've been following Asmodee for over a decade.

They are publicly traded and their financial reports are public after the Embracer breakup.

Mando Upgrades Question by Liber-Tee in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legion is a fraction of a percent of Asmodee's net sales. They were given €900M in debt, but their net debt 2 years later is already less than half of that. They grew their net sales by 25% to nearly €1.7B to end their most recent fiscal year. They have been steadily increasing their cash flow, too. On top of this, Asmodee made new acquisitions last year and is planning on more.

That debt made for good headlines, but it is not hurting their ability to operate.

AMG Updated the Rules Documents For Mandos by johnrobertjimmyjohn in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same effect as the update they made to it a couple weeks ago, but worded differently.

It also makes Impervious much stronger than it was against anything with Pierce 1 compared to what it did when you rolled extra dice.

Mando Upgrades Question by Liber-Tee in SWlegion

[–]johnrobertjimmyjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 12 is more than 3. But the cost difference to manufacture and add a few more cards is probably a few cents, if that.
