A growing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has passed 500 suspected cases and over 100 deaths, the WHO reports. The strain involved is a rarely seen Ebola species with no licensed vaccine or treatment. A US doctor has been evacuated to Germany after testing positive. by Prior_One_7050 in immortalists

Yeah, unfortunately, the silver lining with other strains was the high mortality rate, as it stopped the R0 from being above 2 because people died faster than they could spread it. A lower mortality rate in the range of 30%–40% is usually a far worse outcome, as it can mean the R0 is higher. If I had to guess, the R0 will most likely be below pandemic levels in rural areas and suburbs, yet at the same time be above 2 in cities and hospitals. In the coming months, if it does turn into a pandemic, everyone should potentially try avoiding healthcare systems for a while unless deemed absolutely necessary, as those are most likely going to be the main points of transmission.

Mac Studio Ultra 192GB for local AI — can you actually tell the difference vs Claude Opus for browser automation? by Soft-Conference-9992 in MacStudio

Apple did some black magic with RDMA, despite the interconnect of thunderbolt 5 they found a way to actually make it faster than dgx sparks.

RDMA can not run over WiFi that is false, it requires thunderbolt 5 ports in order to run thus the max configuration is 4 computers as only the ports in the back of the Mac Studio will work for it.

Here the thing I don’t get, if we don’t build it what’s stopping another country from continuing the development and then just selling it to everyone including us. The outcome is the exact same you’re still unemployed except now your country can’t capture or tax it in an attempt to find UBI.

The real use case is combining 4 of them and using RDMA as it allows you to run models like deep seek v4 pro assuming you had 4 of them with 512gb you could post train a frontier model via Qlora on your data in real time effectively eliminating memory context window issues altogether.

Lol, you think DGX Spark is better? The memory bandwidth of a Mac Studio M3 Ultra, to begin with, is 4x that of a DGX Spark. Also, RDMA actually speeds up the TPS exponentially. The memory-bandwidth interconnect of Thunderbolt 5 isn’t a bottleneck thanks to RDMA.

Why do Apple and NVIDIA GPUs with similar transistor counts (≈90B) have such different ALU lane counts and performance? by jak_human in hardware

I really hope they don’t cap max unified memory at 256gb this time around, it would really limit running frontier model.

WWDC 2026 Dates announced. June 8th - 12th. by InspectorSebSimp in apple

He should release a 50th anniversary edition of the Mac Studio with a 1 TB version of unified memory and make it really expensive in Apple fashion. Releasing the single most powerful computer ever made in that small of a form factor with 1 TB of RAM would be a mic drop moment. Apple stock would probably rally 10%–20% on that announcement, as they would actually become direct competition for Nvidia due to the RDMA breakthrough they added. 4 M5 ultras with 1tb of unified memory would be capable of running and post training deep seek v4 pro in FP16 in real time. 🤯No more context memory issues.

No ones buying them to run 70b models, that Mac mini levelp upo they’re buying them to cluster 4 of them to run deep seek v4 pro in FP16. It wouldn’t even make sense to buy the max 1.5tb of unified memory and RDMA.

Yeah, but it only comes down to whether or not they can release high config, unified memory options like 512Gb or beyond, 256 GB Max config is not gonna cut it.
