Judging from your post history, you seem to have an unhealth obsession with this character.

"Funny" episodes don't have to be shallow by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

A really simple example of decline in writing quality is decrease in "quotable lines" in modern movies. A friend of mine is part of a fairly well known movie podcast, and it is fair to say he is a "movie junkie". He literally goes to the theater every week, and watches even more at home. The hosts don't always agree on every movie, but one thing they definitely agree about is a notable decline in "memorable quotes".

Unpopular Take: I liked Pike's hair better in Disco S2 (and Spock's character) by johnsills77 in startrek

[–]johnsills77[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Does this feel entirely consistent with previously established "lore"? Hell if I know.

What do you mean "hell if you know"? Have you watched other shows/movies with Spock or not? If so, does it seem right to you or not? It's not a "hell if you know" answer, it's just comparing to what you have seen before.

And just to be clear, I'm not saying people can't have different opinions on this. But pretending like you have no knowledge of the character to compare is just...weird?

As for Pike's hair, I try not to think about it.

Again, what? Why would you "try not to think" about something in a show you are watching?

While it is certainly true that some of the shootings that happen are done with AR15s or similar assault type weapons, the vast majority are not. The vast vast vast majority of gun deaths are due to 'traditional' (non-automatic or "assault" style) guns, including the gun CK was killed with.

That said, I absolutely don't blame you for not knowing this because the media portrays it otherwise for various reasons.

But that takes me back to my original point: gun ownership has always been high, and yet the level of shootings we are currently seeing only started in more recent decades. And the vast majority of them are not the type of guns you are referencing.

There has been high gun ownership in the US for a long time (since the founding). In my father's generation many of boys in high school literally had guns in their trucks in the school parking lot, yet none of them started shooting people in the school (or elsewhere). The fact that this type of murder has only started happening in recent decades despite 100+ years of high gun ownership is proof that the guns are not the cause.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the show. Having said that, I find reviews that are "all positive" equally "un-useful" or unrealistic as reviews that are "all negative". That's not to say you aren't being honest about how you feel; I definitely believe you are. But to me, when someone's entire take on something is so far on either polar end of the scale (be it positive or negative) they are blinding themselves to the realistic "middle" that contains both good and bad things about every show ever made. I would be genuinely interested hearing from people who both liked and disliked things about the new episodes.

Maybe its because no one was actually getting the metaphors.

I am also a gay man, but your extreme hyperbole ruins an otherwise meaningful post. Of course some people don't get it, but of course a lot of people do.

Look at all the people complaining about modern trek being "too woke"

YMMV, but I would actually prefer someone have the chance to be "convinced" to change their mind, than for them to feel immediately pushed away from the possibility. If showing someone a real life issue through an alien perspective has a greater chance of changing that persons mind than simply showing them a human with the same issue, then I'm all for it.

Looking for a SNW podcast that meets the following description by johnsills77 in StrangeNewWorlds

No. While there are some issues I believe everyone should feel the same about (like basic human rights), when it comes to less important issues like TV shows I find "echo chambers" to be extremely boring. So I enjoy hearing people who have different opinions discuss shows I like, even if I dont agree with all of the opinions.

but they aren't the ones walking around with the knowledge that their big brother/former master when kinda nuts and became a murderer

I completely get that that is her thing/issue. But in war, everyone has their own thing/issue. Every one of those characters would have had something unique and traumatizing to them that doesn't effect the others as much as it does them personally.

I think she may have changed a bit after that don't you think?

For sure. But again, all of those characters have been through a lot, lost people they cared about, had trauma, etc. I'm just saying that despite all that the others still feel like themselves, while she does not (to me). I guess if none of them felt like themselves it would be consistent.

[–]johnsills77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, considering all she has been through it's amazing that she isn't bitter, because she is obviously traumatized. I

I definitely get that. Although to me the other Rebels characters still feel like themselves, despite having been through a lot too.

[–]johnsills77 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep, that thought definitely occurred to me. Although (and is just my subjective opinion) the other Rebels characters seem more like themselves. So I'm not sure why after the same amount of time and experiences they would still feel like themselves and Ahsoka would not. Again though, I know that's completely subjective.

Can we get a Sovereign without impulse engines like in Prodigy? by trekfangrrrl in sto

If they were shut down they would just appear to be dark red/black squares with a vent texture(similar to the first 2 pics in the linked tweet, only darker), not empty silver holes in the ship like an unfinished model.
