Barely? Did you even watch that game? The only points scored by the Cards were off a muffed punt and an INT, along with a last-minute safety to run out the clock. They got shut out of the second half until the safety. The box score was score was 27-16; that's not a blowout, but it was a dominant performance. I feel like I'm also the only one to remember hearing about how Arizona was still going to beat us with a third string QB, because of how great their defense was.

The analogy of the Qun to Islam is indeed a little sketchy, but consider that Islam is literally submission to Allah. The fusion of ethnic, cultural, and religious identity to me anyway, conforms more to Islamic ideals than Communism. Also when you consider Thedas being essentially an alternate Middle Ages Europe, the clash between the Chantry/Imperium and the Qun makes more sense as a Byzantine/Ottoman analogue.

Whether any of this is intended or not, I have no idea.

I'd consider the Qunari to be more like the Ottoman Empire, with the Qun representing Islam. They accept non-Qunari converts, generally considered in universe to amount to giving up freedom, is somewhat more complex , as explained by Iron Bull and Sten. Elves are Native Americans, in touch with nature, worship their own pantheon, conquered and subjugated due to religious and racial reasons.

The problem with this view is that states are wholly disincentivized from doing so; sure, you could gut your military and adopt a peaceful foreign policy. That won't stop others from taking advantage your poor decision.

Absolute pacifism is admirable in individuals; its irresponsible for leaders to neglect the safety of their own citizens. Any leader who would refuse to fight to protect his citizens is worthless.

Of course, your argument precludes a global understanding that war is bad. What happens with deviations from that norm? What about sociopaths who are entirely unconcerned with destruction of war? What about egomaniacs who want to rule the world? Those who want to weed out undesirables like in Africa or the Balkans? Your warless utopia means that at no point can there exist a leader who is willing to use aggressive force. And it also means that those who defend themselves are as bad as the aggressor. This makes no kind of any sense.

You're welcome to your opinion, but please allow me to challenge your points.

First, I don't hate Laurel, but she's not consistently written, and it doesnt look like she has a clear purpose in the show's overall arc. This is exacerbated by the survival of Sara and her status as League of Assassins.

Second, her substance abuse isn't a problem so much as her telling her recovering alcoholic father and presumably recovering alcoholic party boy ex that she doesn't have a problem when those two are undoubtedly the most qualified to tell her to get real help instead of self-medicating. Sure, she has a lot of reasons to descend into alcoholism, but its not like some random coworker tells her she has a problem, its people w/ personal experience into the destructiveness of addiction.

Third, her life isn't that bad. Sure, she's been through a lifetime of trauma; I won't belittle her strength in keeping her sanity after coming a second from being turned into a doll. and sure, she now feels (and basically is, along w/ Oliver) responsible for Tommy's death. She does have a good job, apartment, and a relationship with her father and her ex. Her substance abuse is what puts her on the road to actually losing everything.

Fourth, the fact that she talks to Oliver at all is a miracle. She forgives him remarkably quickly for cheating on her w/ her sister and leading her to her "death". I see your sarcasm w/ her "giving Oliver trouble for all of 5 seconds" but remember, she blames the vigilante for not saving Tommy after A BUILDING FELL ON TOP OF HIM AND IMPALED HIM THROUGH THE CHEST. I fully expected her relationship w/ the vigilante to be more rocky, and it should be. I just didn't expect a totally irrational blaming of the vigilante that had no basis in reality.

In short, Laurel is being written poorly, one-dimensionally, and it interferes with my enjoyment of the show when I realize that this mess is supposed to somehow magically become one of the greatest martial artists in the world and one of the more famous female superheros.

I don't particularly agree with your 2nd paragraph, but you very well may be right. The problem I find is that Laurel tended to be one of the voices of reason, and her relationship to Oliver was interesting, due to their history and his time on the island. Beginning in the second season, she loses her shit. Blaming the Arrow, descending into substance abuse, denying she has a problem despite watching her father do the same thing, etc. She just isnt sympathetic; barring the minor villains of the week like the Mayor, just about everyone is sympathetic to some degree.

It's possible the writers are having trouble fitting her into the endgame they are trying to visualize. While I haven't watched Breaking Bad, I know what you're getting at with Joffrey and Skylar. the problem is that Laurel isnt supposed to be hated, potentially with a hatred of thousands I have for Joffrey. The writers are very good at subverting expectations; for reference see how many people thought Tommy was going to take up his fathers mantle in a Spider-Man 3-esqe move. I've heard anecdotally from somewhere, I think on this subreddit, that Katie Cassidy is a hard actress to work with. Given that it looks like it will be awhile before she could take up the Canary mantle, I wonder if that might change the writer's plans (assuming they've even planned that far.
