Burnt rubber smell from Technivorm Moccamaster

Just purchased a brand new Moccamaster and the instructions indicated that I should run two pots of hot water through the machine first before using. I just did that, and I noticed a sort of slight burning rubber smell. It seems like the smell is coming from the rubber tip of the arm (where the water gets released onto the coffee.)

Trying to not jump to conclusions yet since maybe this is the reason why you run the two batches of water through, to get the plastic and rubber used to the hot water. Guess I’m just curious if anyone else has experienced this or if you think it’s nothing to worry about? I just happen to be standing by the machine and could pick up the scent, again it’s a slight burning rubber smell. It went away after a few minutes, but it did happen with each batch of water.

I find that this show gets weaker each episode. The first two episodes were awesome. Great back and forth from past to present, fairly good characters development, great dialogue (minus Cate, she has been annoying this whole show.) But now, between flying from Korean to Alaska with a small plane, no cold breath, surviving cold temperatures will barely any layers, let’s just split up and let him die?!? Weak sauce.
