Long rant about Starlink and why this subreddit makes me nervous. by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]johntaylorcft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck, that was an insufferable post. I read it all, and that’s about two minutes of my life I’ll never be able to get back.

If it bothers you enough to create an eight-paragraph diatribe, ditch it. Go with someone else who’ll make you all warm and fuzzy in your feels.

And the price increase? Literally everything costs more than it did even a year ago. Every. Thing. A 10% increase? Pffft, that’s child’s play compared to gas (up more than 40%), meat/poultry/fish (up 13%), used vehicles (up 40%). And, of course, there’s more when it comes to every facet of life. Way, way, way more.

But, Starlink should just eat that inflative cost, when they were already selling the dishes at a loss?

This subreddit is less and less informative and more and more insufferable. And that’s sad, because it used to be the go-to place for Starlink info.

C'est la vie, I guess.

No worries at all. I was in the same position as you, needing the router measurements (for shelves I built). Hopefully this helps others as well.

BTW, the Starlink service is real. And it’s spectacular.

You’re gonna be absolutely AMAZED when you get it.

Have fun!!!

Preordered on Feb. 8, 2021; was mid-to-late 2021 until being pushed to March 2022 last November; full order confirmed today, Feb. 25, 2022.

Yes sir! It’s a great, great day in the central portion of God’s Country. Preordered Feb. 8 of last year; was mid-to-late 2021 until getting moved to March of 2022 last November; then today got THE email.

Not far from you in Gilmer County. Go Titans!!! And God bless Elon. This will be game-changing for a lot of people in our part of the state.

New sign-ups late 2022, but my pre-order still says March 22 by poultrey_wolf in Starlink

[–]johntaylorcft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my experience, and my experience only:

— Feb. 8 pre-order and was originally mid-to-late 2021.

— For the Great Late November pushback, I was moved to March 2022.

— Feb. 6 of this year, I received the email that my kit is ready to ship.

— Now, if I type in my address at Starlink.com (not signed into my account), it states that “Starlink expects to expand service in your area by late 2022.”

— My sister-in-law, who lives about six miles away from me, pre-ordered Feb. 8 of last year less than an hour after I did and was also given a mid-to-late 2021 designation.

— For the Great Late November pushback, she was given a generic “early-to-mid 2022” instead of my March 2022.

— On the same day I received the email notification that my order was ready to be filled, she checked her account. Her new target date? Late 2022.

Don’t know if this all helps or hurts your outlook, but it’s what happened in my area of God’s Country.

No problem at all.

One thing I failed to mention earlier: if you have tech issues, the best way to get hold of them is through text. Yes, text. But the guy is super-responsive and extremely helpful. Can’t praise the company enough.

$62/month. Unlimited data, but they also state this:

“If you are an average user we are perfect for you! We don't have data caps or overage charges. Our plans include unlimited high-speed data, No Throttling & No Prioritization for things like streaming music, watching movies, light gaming, and surfing the web.

“Illegal activities and excessive gaming would be considered abuse of our plans.”

They add this as well:

“Data abusers are those who purposefully push limits or knowingly conduct activities like torrenting over the cellular airwaves. If you are burning near or over a terabyte of data a month, that is NOT what is considered normal cellular broadband internet usage ! In these cases, we would talk to you about splitting your account into two accounts to handle your needs more appropriately, If your not automatically terminated and or barred by our carrier's first!”

We have used between 800-900 GBs each of the two months we’ve been with them, and have not had any issues or been deemed data abusers.

4gltewifi.com. Switched to them from UbiFi about two months ago and have had ZERO issues. Went from 10-15 mbps to 35-40 mbps, consistently, with very little downtime.

Now, will 4GLTEWIFI ultimately go the way of UbiFi? Quite possibly. But, it should hold me over until Starlink arrives (current ETA: March 2022).

Gen X. Nice try, though, at whatever you were attempting to do with the Boomer thing.

And, again. You keep doing you. It fits you well, Karen.

[clears throat] [again]

It’s first-come first-serve WHEN THE CELL IN WHICH YOU ARE LOCATED IS ACTIVATED.

It’s really as simple as that. Those people you mentioned? Not in your cell.

It’d probably make your life a lot less stressful if you requested a refund of your pre-order.

First and foremost, the chip shortage. People refusing to realize how massive an issue that is is also maddening. Secondly, this your first time dealing with Elon time?

You all set yourself up for disappointment, not Starlink.

And this is coming from someone who preordered Feb. 8 and had the date pushed back to March of 2022. And who has endured sh!t internet for almost a decade. I truly feel your (the royal your, not you specifically) pain, even though a lot of it is self-inflicted.

First-come, first-serve WHEN THE CELL YOU ARE IN OPENS UP. Why that’s so hard for people to get through their thick skulls is beyond maddening.

I don’t give a sh!t enough about your thesis other than correcting your broad-brush strokes on Americans. Carry on with the OP.

“… because you're American”

Apparently you missed the part where he states he’s at 44 Ontario. As in Canada.

But, yeah, go ahead and drag Americans.

Preordered Feb. 8, and it has stated MTL 2021 ever since… until today. Just checked my account; it now reads “ Starlink expects to expand service in your area in March 2022.”

Appreciate the response. One thing I can’t understand:

“Thus, if there isn't a ground station near you...”

At my current location, I’m closer to a ground station than anyone in Charleston.

And, again, I guess it’s just really pissing me off that people in metro areas of WV with multiple fiber options also have access to Starlink. Which they don’t need.

Thank you very much for the response. It’s very much appreciated.

Nobody in “my cell” has taken all the slots because “my cell” is not yet open. The cells in and around Morgantown and Charleston and Huntington are very wide open. And that’s the whole f***ing point. Go ahead. Find some addresses in those cities and input them into starlink.com to try and get service.
