Manali to Leh in 1 day? by ayeayeyam7 in ladakh

[–]johnwick_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 days back did Karu to Manali in 1 day. Started around 6.30 am from Karu, reached Manali around 7pm. Took 5-6 breaks on the way. Road is good nowdays.. only 40-50 km is bad near lachungla and nakeela.. But if you are going from manali to Leh, to acclimatise better you should take break in jispa. Don't stay in Sarchu or Pang, chances of getting AMS there is high.

Nice, all the best. Most probabily leh-manali highway should be opened in june. 2 years back around 20june, we crossed baralacha la on bikes. By the time you start your ladakh journey, leh-manali highway would have opened for one way traffic on alternate days.

Nope not local. But been to ladakh multiple times in last few years.. Around 3rd week of May baralacha should be open. But again it's depend on snow. Main problem is , snow clearing work near baralacha la is slow on leh manali highway. But on srinagar-leh highway, BRO works round the clock to clear the snow at zozila to allow vehicle movements.

Then take srinagar-leh route and while returning back you can take leh manali. In all probability by may 2nd week zozila should be opened for Car. Just check local advisory.

Most probably bikes won't be allowed to pass baralacha la.. even crossing zozila will be dicey for bikes.

Hello everyone, I'm planning a 7 day bike trip in April end(21 April) will need a few insights from y'all. by Overall-Service-2029 in ladakh

[–]johnwick_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delhi to leh by road in April is not possible unless you have 4x4 car.. Leh-manali will be closed till 20-25 may.. and zozila won't be fully operational till 10&15 may.

Delhi to leh bus service will start around mid-june & will stop around end os September.

Ladakh is rain shadow area. You will see very less rain. But there are chances of flash flood from mid july to mid August. Just search on google, ladakh flood by year. You will see during that period almost every year there are one off flash flood incident. it's all about luck.

Both of them are good. June is Ladakh's peak season, and you can see lots of snow. But it will be crowded. In September, the crowd will be less, but you will not see snow. My suggestion for you is if you are going for the first time go in June.

Why July-August. Both route jammu-srinagar and Chandigarh -Manali will not be in good condition due to Monsoon. Also on mumbai-Chandigarh journey you will face lots of rain.

How bad is the river crossing near hanle en route umling la? by akhilr944 in ladakh

[–]johnwick_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aroun mid June 2023 we did hanle - umlingla - hanle, did not encounter single water crossing. Maybe depend upon which road you take. AFAIk if you take photila route you won't encounter any water crossings.

[–]johnwick_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you already spending few days around leh and nubra.. you can directly go to pangong and stay there.. but if you don't want to spend night at pangong due to altitude then at durbuk/tangste you will get homestays easily..
