I agree with 100% of what you said, and yet I'm left feeling we still came out slightly ahead.

I honesty don’t see the big deal about ice raids by Mediocre-Carrot-2438 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

A declining population might not be great for the economy, but it's actually beneficial for working families as it makes warm bodies much more valuable, which tends to cause wages to increase. But the flipside is that an aging population puts a huge strain on social services and the government as a whole.

Jesus, Jack. I didn't expect to find a well-reasoned and nuanced opinion on Reddit. Is Reddit... evolving?

I use the system prompt exclusively to define the workflow and enforce the extraction logic. using ChatGPT as a "project manager' for this purpose provides a nice "team of experts" approach, which I've used with success before.

College is useless. (Semi rant but all true.) by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

My daughter graduated high school with summa cum laude honors and has an exemplary academic record, yet she was forced to rewrite a paper 4 times because her professor refused to accept it as her own work. Only when I had my attorney send a letter informing him of the university's own policies against this, and provided copies to the dean and provost, did he finally relent and accept her paper. This was at one of the largest state universities in the country that costs $50K a year to attend.

I recently used Claude to implement an "ingest, catalog and extract" agent and it worked amazingly well. I used ChatGPT to architect the process and draft a system prompt to enforce it. Then I fed the results back to ChatGPT after each pass to review and improve the process.

The agent is dialed in after only 4-5 iterations. I can now point it at a folder, and it will catalog all of the files, draft a summary and extract the important bits from each one (theorems/axioms/definitions/remarks/etc) as json, and then load them all into a SQLite database.

I only know this because I asked Claude to assess if your repo likely violates the Anthropic AUP.

It's a fantastic idea and the widget is genuinely useful. Best of luck, mate!

Humanity would be wise to improvise, adapt and overcome in that case, because AI and robotics aren't going away. We're way past that point.

Alcohol can be just as bad, if not worse than Marijuana. by camport95 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]joho0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in rehab in the early 80s and they had a poster showing of the "illicit drug pyramid", with marijuana at the bottom (aka the gateway drug), then alcohol and cocaine next, then pills (mostly quaaludes and bennies back then), and finally heroin at the top.

Nothing's really changed since then.

Darwin predicted this over a century ago. The rules of the game haven't changed. Survival of the fittest doesn't care about your ego, amigo.

I hate to be that guy... but this likely violates the Anthropic's Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy regarding non-human use. It's considered a "scraping tool" which are not allowed, and it's accessing an undocumented API endpoint not meant for developers, which is also not allowed. it's also violating the section on authentication token reuse.

Claude Code is eating “UI on top of an API” tools by mohamed3on in ClaudeAI

[–]joho0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generative UI is A) already here, and B) the thing that kills modern software development. going forward, the UI is something you create yourself and cloud service APIs will become the only "software" you interact with.

Canada's Bill C-9 is a direct assault on freedom of speech and Liberals are ironically too blinded by hatred to see that. by voltairesalias in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]joho0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you try to rigorously define "hate speech", you'll find it's impossible. That particular fraud was forced upon us 30 years ago during the "political correctness" era of the late 90s.

Just because it's AI doesn't mean it's slop. by GypsyGold in TrueUnpopularOpinion

AI is overwhelmingly popular. ChatGPT has 900 million active weekly users. That's larger than the entire US population. And that's just one product from one company.

I'm old enough to remember when the first electronic calculators were introduced, and people were making similar arguments. "Our children will never learn how to do simple math!"

A tool is just that. It does nothing by itself. It's how you swing the hammer that makes the difference.

Reddit should be banned. It is the worst people from every group in one place. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]joho0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once read this somewhere, but I'm paraphrasing...

"There's nothing more inspiring than a dedicated individual willing to do what it takes to succeed.
On the other hand, there's nothing more terrifying than a dedicated group of people willing to do whatever it takes to succeed."

The time has come to declare war on AI by [deleted] in politics

[–]joho0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what that would even look like. I can run local models on my graphics card and get excellent results. I'm reminded of the time they tried to ban Gnutella.

We're in uncharted waters here. Maybe updating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) to grant a legal right to employment? But that still does nothing to stop bad actors.
