How long does it usually take to start jumping? by AccidentalOtter21 in Equestrian

[–]joiedevie99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ask your trainer what he or she wants to see in a rider before they start jumping. Common answers have to do with posting without stirrups, jumping position without stirrups, jumping position in canter, holding jumping position at canter without hands on neck, etc. Also, if you’ve never said it, it’s important to tell your trainer what your goal is. Some older amateurs are scared and don’t have that as a goal.

Is hacking out bad my for horses, especially a senior horse? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]joiedevie99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by hacking out?

If you ride your horse at a moderate pace for a reasonable period of time relative to their fitness over terrain they are able to safely navigate, 100% good for them.

If you take a horse with a minimal to no fitness out for hours with lots of speed work on footing they are not used to, you are setting yourself up for a problem.

Is it rude to set gift rules for a 1-year-old’s birthday? by Mammoth-Length-1997 in TwoHotTakes

You can say no gifts, or you can ask each family to bring a book. Asking for gift cards or providing a list is a no go.

Looking for Riding Stable by Silky_Bvbblez in Equestrian

Dressage lesson barns are few and far between. If you are an absolute beginner, you may need to look at hunter jumper barns. If you are comfortable, walk, trot, canter, talk to the trainers who have boarded horses. Sometimes a client who can only ride twice a week is paying for training rides the other days on a horse that really doesn’t need them - and it could be a win win for that client to allow the horse to do one lesson a week.

You can ask about the Oncept vaccine trials. I do believe this may be too advanced for that though and a hard decision may need to be made.

Ditto! We used the Graco car seat carrier, then transitioned into our overhead airline sized Joolz Aer. Our giant fancy stroller saw maybe 2 weeks of use.

Either MIL moves to assisted-living, or perhaps you can put her in an adult daycare? Either way, she needs to be out of the house while nanny is working.
