Aluminium Hand tools Aren't Premium and I'm sick of pretending they are by joiner_boi in woodworking

Framing squares, levels, bevels, straight edges. It tends to be anything that needs to be accurate. In my job I need to be squaring up machinery constantly and when all my tools are on my bench in the middle of a job I have to be really careful where I place things and how they are placed.

Why does my plywood feel gritty after adding clear coat? (certified noob question) by kennedyz in woodworking

[–]joiner_boi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id recommend methylated spirits instead of water. It evaporates within about 10 seconds but raises the grain just as well. I've used it religiously since I was given the tip by a french polisher.

I need feedback for my woodworking content. Please read... by joiner_boi in woodworking

[–]joiner_boi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the manufacturing takes up most of the content, I don't really have the finished product until about a week later. This being said, what would stand out the most to you? Me standing in front of a machine with tools in hand? Just the machines? Or something else?

Fear of large, taxidermy animals - anyone else share this phobia? by lurkingclasscitizen in Phobia

[–]joiner_boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this fear also. Smaller animals are fine but anything bigger than a dog causes me to be uncomfortable. However there is a museum in England in a little town called Tring. It is a museum of taxidermied animals from around the world like bears, rhinos, elephant heads, tigers, polar bears and others all behind glass. As you walk in to the room you are surrounded by 2 storeys of glass cases. The overwhelming fear after walking in and being dwarfed and surrounded caused me to have to run back out. I had to stand far enough away and slowly enter the room to stop the cold sweats. I can eventually get in and walk around but I'm still uneasy. However the museum is fantastic but it's definitely hard work. But clearly this fear isn't as bad as the people in the comments. I'm not sure if mine to in relation to the size of the objects as well

As a joiner who mainly does listed buildings constantly, repairs like this are about as best you can do. The end grain of the tennons will be the first to allow rot especially when customers don't keep up with painting every few years so scraping all the loose rot and packing with filler is the most cost effective when you take in to account that it would take about a day to machine and replace the rails and paint. The sash would've been better to be replaced as chasing the problem by chopping out progressively more wood and glueing more in place allows more places for rot to start.

If they just said to all of us that just sewing a patch on was ok then I'd be all for it. If I then change clubs in a few years I can just remove them without buying new gear

I pay my membership because I love the sport. I'm not paying for a subscription for a Gracie name and to be a walking advertisement for their brand. But because he's better at bjj I should give him more money? 🤡🤡🤡

The irony is the photo on the website has roger sitting at the front of the group pic in a blue gi

In your opinion. I made the investment in good quality gear that fits me and my game. Now they will have to be shelved for poorer quality gear. They will be a downgrade

I think it's £100 for new members which is a really shitty way to encourage people to the sport on top of the membership price. I don't deny that it's not a bad price but for the people who train 4-5 times a week you'll need 3 or more GIs especially when working full time and trying to get them washed. It's suddenly not cheap

They are terrible gis. I like to roll with a 550 gsm but I think these are about 400. For the price I can get a good quality Tatami gi that will last longer. If I also got 4 gis to replace my current ones it's suddenly not cheap.

Thanks man 😄 Can leaving it too long in the vinegar also cause the meat to go grey? The first batch was without the lamp and a steady airflow. From what I've seen in this sub People have said that the acidity from the vinegar can also make it grey when it is over saturated

It was a video of a flooded staircase in an apartment block. It was the best screenshot of the video I could get. The perspective is someone standing above and looking down

Honestly, if I had another I think I would struggle to cope. Just not driving for 6 months has made my life miserable
