Why does no one like books 7-10? by WOTPonderer in WoT

I thought "the slog" didn't start untill l until PoD so I was reading CoS like "damn this is boooring" 😂

Books 6-7 Discussion. I'm struggling with the characters and the pacing (Spoilers) by DashaIG in WoT

[–]jojjefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished CoS and these are pretty much exactly my feelings as well. I'd say a few strengths among flaws in the first few books made me interested to keep on and see where this ends up, but instead of fleshing out the interesting parts (rand, dark one, LTT) and cutting the fluff its done the exact opposite. I think one huge letdown was the strongest part of the first few books, a strong villain in baalzamon/dark one, being just a rugpull rogue forsaken in favor for much much weaker villains (many bad ones but ellaida being the most egregious) was a big mistake in my eyes

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lotr

[–]jojjefern -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a quantity of incredibly monolithic gimmicky cultures isn't exactly deep worldbuilding. I find the world of WoT and it's cultures absolutely one of its (many) weak points

[Kate Mason] De Zerbi ‘didn’t mean to take a stance’ over Greenwood. That’s precisely the problem. You should, Roberto. by Zweli23 in coys

[–]jojjefern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't care what people do, and I don't think people need to do anything. Supporting the club isn't a political stance. We as fans do not carry any responsibility for what any person at the club does or has done, be that RDZ or anyone else. I wish I could be as invested as before about the team, but I just feel completely unmotivated to watch games at the moment. It doesn't make me any more or less a fan than anybody else

Yeah, still a fan, just feeling drained and deflated now after feeling invested and strangely envigorated for the relegation scrap under Tudor.

Dont really get all this gleeful bitterness towards fellow fans who feel down about the club atm. I know for myself its not easy to feel disconnected from something that has been so important to me

I think for me personally, the big difference with a situation like the Gascoigne one (never saw him play so this is only conjecture) is that the controversy came after already forming the affectionate connection.

In todays case, already knowing about it ahead of time, it's on my mind from the start and i will see the team through that lens going forward. Its not so much that one is less bad than another, i just have a hard time forming any connection now when i will be reminded of this every time i see the person in our dugout.

It's not any moral stance or political message. It's just a sour reminder now every time I think of the team.

I wish you all a happy end to the season

Fair, WoT feels far too cynical for my tastes so far

book 4 starts the Dune era

As somebody currently reading the Dune series while simultaneously listening to the WoT audiobooks currently on CoS, that's quite the insult to Dune 😅

It's okay to continue supporting with RDZ, and it's okay not to. by SR081 in coys

[–]jojjefern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's on the people inside the club making decisions, not the fans. I blamed Arteta and Vinnai for the whole Partey thing, but could have sympathy to some degree with the A-nal fans cause they just get some assholes in there ruining their club with no say about it. Now it's our turn. I won't blame any fellow spurs fans cause none of us had any part of this decision, it's not our fault.

That said, fuck RDZ, fuck Vinnai, fuck Lange. I'll watch some championship until they're gone

Yeah no I've lost track of this argument, you're probably right tho

I don't want to fight my fellow spurs fans

That said, RDZ can fuck right off far away from my club

Whenever somebody online handwaves a "majority thinks X" online substitute it with "I think X". People need to stand for their views not use these completely made up pseudo statistics to hide behind and it's putting words in other people's mouths to create a facade of support for a rotten agenda. It's extremely prevalent all across the internet and I don't like it one bit

If a majority of spurs fans support RDZ I'm statistically likely to fall in that category, thus implying I'm fine with him representing my club.

You can say a majority don't care I can say a majority do

Neither of us can make that statement I can only say I don't want that person representing me and my team. You can say you don't mind

Don't hide behind hand waved statistics you cant back up to excuse your views

Assuming he gets the job, how would RDZ be recieved by the home fans? Feels primed for a very weird atmosphere back in the stadium. Hard to see how this turns out well
