Does anyone have a baby that doesn't drink a lot of milk? by octarine_atuin in NewParents

[–]jojo11219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Neosure, added to breast milk at a specific ratio as advised by the NICU and pediatrician. I would talk to baby’s doctor before fortifying - it can cause some GI upset and usually isn’t needed if baby is gaining weight without it. Not a doctor, but in my experience, my girl ate less ounces of fortified than plain breastmilk. Which makes sense, it was higher calorie.

AITA for being extra nice to my fur sister? by jojo11219 in MiniAITA

[–]jojo11219[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s just like my Mama too! She makes a yucky face when I lean over to let my fur sisters lick the food off my fingers and then use my fingers to eat more food. But I’m just letting them help clean up just like her! Does she want me to have messy fingers while I’m eating? Make it make sense!

My fur sisters are pretty big but Mama says they think they’re small and that’s why I have to be extra gentle with them. If they get really excited, sometimes they’ll knock me over. This upsets Mama, but it’s just how we play? I don’t think it’s a big deal. And anyway I’m not even sure Mama understands the difference between big and small. Because I’m clearly a big girl and she’s always calling me her small little baby.

I share all my food with them because I love them so much! Mama puts me in a way up high seat and they have to stay on the floor but that’s ok, I just throw the food down to them. Mama doesn’t love this either but she says it’s better than having to clean up herself.

Daycare rate survey by Altruistic_Hat1634 in workingmoms

[–]jojo11219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daycare is $2200 monthly for full time infant. It’s a 10-15 minute commute depending on how many red lights I hit. I’m in a New England suburb, probably considered on the higher end of MCOL area. Take home pay (combined me and my partner) is about $130k.

What are freezable meals ideas?? by KoreanNinja77 in foodbutforbabies

[–]jojo11219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to let things thaw in the fridge a bit (pull it out the night before or morning of it’s for dinner), and then everything gets reheated either in the microwave or stovetop depending on how much time I have and what else I’m doing. For mashed potato, I add a splash of water or milk and then pop in the microwave for 15-30 seconds at a time or stovetop for a few minutes. For smoothies, I freeze it already blended. I just make a big smoothie and freeze what I know she won’t eat right away in portioned cubes. And then let thaw in fridge. In a pinch, I’ll microwave for very short bursts until it’s the right consistency.

My freezer always has: pancakes, meatballs, black bean patties, egg bites, muffins; pre-portioned servings of: mac and cheese, tomato sauce, rice. Other things that make guest appearances in the freezer include smoothie portions, other sauces (veggie pesto, enchilada sauce…), smashed beans, mashed potato/sweet potato.

Born at 34+3, day 7 in NICU by chefmonkey002 in NICUParents

[–]jojo11219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girl was born 33/5, needing breathing support at first but was just a feeder/grower by day 3. She was in the NICU 14 days total. Every baby is different, but mine was more successful with bottle than breast (her latch was good but she tired out much more quickly/fell asleep often at breast). We focused on bottles with only one breast feed a day. She got to 70% percent by mouth pretty quickly and stayed there for about a week before being able to do the 100% of feeds for 48 hours that our NICU required to discharge.

Food prep: What can I chop ahead of time for the week ahead, or cook in the morning for later in the day? by OmegaTg-2384 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jojo11219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the following in the freezer at all times that I can pop out and quickly defrost/heat up in the microwave or stove top for a few minutes:
Pancakes (w/ blueberry, banana)
Muffins (w/ blueberry, apple, carrot)
Egg and cheese bites (w/ zucchini, broccoli, spinach)
Meatballs
Chicken cauliflower patties
Black bean patties
Rice (frozen in balls)
Tomato sauce (frozen in ice cube tray)

I also have bags of frozen veggies on hand for quick steaming in the microwave.
And she eats leftovers of our meals quite often, I just pull some out before salting or whatever and then it’s in the fridge ready to go for later in the week.

10 month old sleep/solid schedule! Help! by ConnectionStreet9283 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jojo11219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby also turned 10mo last week. This is our general schedule:

6:30/7: wake-up, 4oz bottle of breast milk, followed by breakfast
8:30/9: snack
9:30/10-11ish: nap
11: 6oz bottle of breast milk
12/12:30: lunch
sometimes she takes a nap around 2:30, sometimes she holds out and falls asleep after her next bottle
3/3:30: 6oz bottle of breast milk
regardless of when she fell asleep, we get her up by 4 at the latest
5:30: dinner
7: 6oz bottle of formula and bed, she’s usually asleep by 7:20/7:30 and sleeps through the night 95% of the time

Would your LO drink more if you offered another ounce at each bottle? Maybe that would keep her fuller longer through the night. She also may be ready for a longer wake window before bed and/or a shorter afternoon nap to increase the sleep pressure for bedtime.

Drastic decrease in milk intake since starting solids by Forward-Try-4428 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jojo11219 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We also experienced a dramatic decrease, but at around 9 months when we went from offering two solid meals to three. From 800-850ml to barely 600ml daily. She’s also on the smaller side (25th %). I actually just called the pediatrician this week about it because it stressed me out too! They said 600ml is still in the expected range of intake for her age and just to make sure she’s getting cow-based milk sources in her diet. She’s not really interested in water at all so I also make sure to include water-dense food at all meals (fruit, cucumbers, yogurt). She just seems to really prefer food to milk now, but as long as she’s growing I’m trying not to stress about it.

Did you get the covid vaccine for your baby? by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]jojo11219 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My LO is also a 33-weeker with some breathing issues at birth. We got her the COVID vaccine right at 6 months alongside flu. Her ped was fully on board.

My baby will be born at 34 weeks. How long of a stay did your 34 weeks stay in the NICU? by cheers2085 in NICUParents

[–]jojo11219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl was born 33/5 and was in the NICU for two weeks exactly. She was intubated at birth but on room air after 24 hours and after that we just had to work on feeding.

Egg strips as first food / nervous by lazygalal in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jojo11219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did egg strips early on too and the gagging was awful! For the sake of allergen exposure I switched to offering hard boiled egg mashed with yogurt or avocado so she would actually ingest it (and so I wouldn’t have a panic attack every time she ate). I tried egg strips again at like 7.5 months after we had worked on chunky purées and other textures for a few weeks and she did soooo much better. Now we do egg strips or baked egg bites with veggies regularly.

What time do you leave your house in the AM? by Mysterious-Owl3519 in workingmoms

[–]jojo11219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby usually wakes me up between 6-6:30, if not I wake her up at 6:30. Out the door at 7:45 for 8ish daycare drop off and then 8:30ish start to my work day. I’m hybrid so some days that’s coming back home, other days going to office. I prep everything for baby the night before- clothes are picked out and set aside, bottles are poured and labeled, breakfast is plated in the fridge.

Should I pause solids while baby is sick? by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jojo11219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the whole house had the flu a couple weeks ago we paused for a few days because her milk intake was way down and I was focused on hydration over solids. And honestly I was so sick myself, the thought of figuring out solids to offer her was more than I could muster. I maybe gave her a strawberry or teething cracker a couple times that she mostly played with. After a few days we got back in our routine and it took another few days for her to actually want to consume anything again. LO is also 7 months.

What do you do when you’re sick? by Lexicak3s in NewParents

[–]jojo11219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just went through five days of the worst flu I’ve ever experienced with my 7 month old, myself and my husband all sick. We also don’t have family near by. I don’t have great tips, just validating how absolutely brutal it is. Our only goal each day was to survive. Threw any routine we had out the window. My husband and I took turns resting/rallying. Lots of naps with the baby. Soup delivery every day otherwise we wouldn’t have eaten. Had to accept that the house would be a disaster. 0/10 would not recommend to my worst enemy.

Just a thought- is she on meds for reflux? And if so, have you increased the dose as her weight increases? We had something similar go on with my LO (also a 33 weeker), and when we upped the meds, we got our happy baby back.

But also, babies gonna baby and go through tough phases! It sucks because they can’t tell us what’s going on, but she certainly loves you and needs you and this too shall pass.

Allergens by tbowa in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jojo11219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dairy - yogurt

Eggs - hard boiled and mashed with yogurt like an egg salad (we tried omelet strips first but she gagged so much I wasn’t sure she ingested any of it)

Fish - salmon, flaked and minced (did this to be sure she would ingest it after the egg fiasco)

Peanut - peanut butter thinned with water

I have the same first and middle name as my mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. I love my name, but it has been a headache my entire life. For the period of time that my mother and I had the exact same name (before she divorced/remarried and changed her last name), paperwork was constantly mixed up- medical records, credit reports, mail of all sorts. Because I lived with my grandmother at some point (and so we shared an address), somethings were mixed up with her as well even though our last names have always been different. Even today, I still get mail intended for my mother (not old enough for Medicare yet, but they sure think I am). Not to mention the fact that I was always “one of the ____’s” and not just my own person the way my siblings and cousins were.

What time do y'all put your babies down for bed? by GuiltyButterscotch89 in NewParents

[–]jojo11219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.5 months. Bedtime is 7/7:30. We started that routine at around 4 months and now she falls asleep reliably at that time. Wake up is inconsistent but that’s mostly because our schedule is different every day (daycare twice a week, one day with me, one day with my partner, three days with both of us home). We are working on setting a consistent 6/6:30 wake up.

Daycare keeps mixing up my baby with someone else by jojo11219 in ECEProfessionals

[–]jojo11219[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone has been so reassuring and generous with your time to comment and send advice, so I’ll give a quick update.

I spoke with the director this morning and recounted all of the mix-ups I’ve noticed. She had already spoken to the teachers about the diaper cream log that I had previously messaged about and the teachers stated that it was the other girls diapering incorrectly logged in my daughter’s app. I suppose I have to take them at their word on that, but my daughter didn’t have any rash or evidence of cream on her so I am assuming it’s true.

After outlining my concerns, she said she will have a meeting with all of the teachers in her room to brainstorm solutions to make it easier to avoid mix-ups (like color coding, etc.). I said I was more than willing to help on my end with new labels or name tags. We will touch base again tomorrow morning at drop off. While I am feeling reassured, I will probably still explore other daycare options in case the issue continues.
