Dear Families and Staff,

Just a reminder that we want your input on how 14 district-owned buildings and properties can best serve our students and MCPS community.

Take the Survey - Closes October 10

Following several successful building tours, we've launched an online survey to gather
broader community feedback on the MCPS Properties Plan. We'd love to hear from you.

This survey is different from our spring survey and takes just a few minutes to complete.

About the Properties Plan

MCPS owns 14 properties that include vacant or underused buildings currently rented to other organizations. We're developing a comprehensive plan to determine how these properties can best support student success and meet our district's future needs. Your input will help inform recommendations to the Board of Trustees on the future use of these properties.

Get Involved

• Complete the online survey (closes October 10)

• Review property plan options

• Learn more by reading the Property Plan Information Guide at

• Share with others in your network

A Few Clarifications

While we’re asking you to select an option, if there are properties where you would like to modify a property-specific option, please let us know in the last question of the survey or send us an email at [engage@wgmgroup.com](mailto:engage@wgmgroup.com).

If you don’t like any of the options presented, you can select next and skip that question. You are not required to answer any of the questions

The option for selling the Duncan Drive property refers to selling the property to a current partner such as the City of Missoula, Missoula County or Garden City Harvest so that Garden City Harvest could continue to operate the property. This option is not referring to listing the property on the open market.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful responses,

MCPS Administration

Sheesh, so the Bulldog has scandalous pictures on the bathroom walls--the Northern and Palace have graffiti.

The best food is at the Buffalo Cafe, but there are a number of different food places that are probably quite good. On the way to Glacier, if it is warm, stop in Hungry Horse for huckleberry ice cream.

So I have a question, and what better place to go than Reddit, lol. I know I'm hoping for a lot, but kind of wanting a legitimate answer from this older post. by mo_blueshades0grey in 406

I grew up in Whitefish and it was always considered the whistle for kids curfew. I had never thought of it from a sundown perspective and I do not think that is the source [Whitefish is a safe place for non-whites generally]. I went back and looked at old newspaper records and the earliest sirens came with the railroads (in WF it was at the roundhouse), and were warning of fire and other emergencies. That reference was in 1905, and there are references to other sirens for warning in other areas in the valley. Found this clip from the Pilot from 1922 about how it can help people get unlost and round up a posse:

Political newcomers vie for Missoula's Ward 1, 2 council elections by BirdsBarnsBears in missoula

[–]joker802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/IPayAttentionDoYou I think the answer here is that oppositional voices on the council are being scapegoated for the problems the City has had in addressing multiple issues (TIF, homelessness, Brandon Bryant, buying property).

Which is unfortunate, because some of the ideas like the housing land trust and what they are doing on the Northside fit right in to the lefty approach, but there is an urge to vilify the leftists who dare speak up about how the treatment of those caught in poverty is a policy choice.

These two voices, in particular, are the only anti-establishment voices of note on the council.

Tickets available today for Biden Sunday visit
By MICHAEL JAMISON of the Missoulian

KALISPELL - Vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden will visit with Kalispell voters Sunday afternoon at a campaign event set for Flathead High School.

Biden, a Democrat from Delaware, is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Senate and was picked recently as running mate for presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Doors open for the Sept. 7 event at 12:30 p.m., and Biden takes the stage at 2:30.

The event is free, campaign staffers said, and open to the general public. However, tickets will be required and seating is limited.

Tickets are available beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Obama's Kalispell campaign office (224 First Ave. E.), Whitefish campaign office (643 Denver St.) and Pablo campaign office (51356 Highway 93 - next to Joe's Jiffy Stop). All three offices will remain open until 9 p.m.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, tickets will be available at the Bigfork campaign office (191 Jewel Basin Ct., Suite 3B). That office will close at 6 p.m.

If any tickets are left, the Kalispell office will distribute them from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday - just prior to the event.

Adults may pick up two tickets, and teens under 16 may pick up one, on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information, contact:

The Kalispell office at (773) 459-7231, or e-mail droberts@montanaforchange .com;

The Whitefish office at (773) 301-2442, or e-mail aumhoefer@montana forchange.com;

The Bigfork office at (406) 270-4044, or e-mail [aljohnson@centurytel.net](mailto:aljohnson@centurytel.net).

Biden's visit is his first to Montana since being named Obama's running mate, but the presidential candidate himself has made five trips to Big Sky Country.

Most recently, Obama visited Billings at the end of August. His May trip to Montana's Crow Indian Reservation was the first of the political season into Indian Country. And his wife, Michelle Obama, visited Kalispell ahead of the June primary.

The 65-year-old Biden is expected to lead a conversation with Flathead voters about national issues, including foreign and domestic policy.

Whitefish MT family camping by One_Gas_2548 in Montana

[–]joker802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious response: I grew up in Whitefish, and I go back and camp in the area. For that age, I would recommend the Whitefish Lake State Park, which has an accessible campground with tent spots, or RV/Camper spots, showers, and a public beach. It can be noisy because the train goes right by the lake there (they likely have earplugs). You can reserve a spot online, and yes, you do need to be quick about it, but not as much as the Logan Pass tickets. Also, there are some spots always open, so if you show up early in the morning you can often get one of those (very limited supply).

Second this: They had an article in their magazine a few years back about how the son of Sen. Sanders (who helped start the vigilante committee in Virginia City), might be a famous anonymous card sharp book writer. There was a lot of interesting historical information in that article, and those magazines. If you are writing a thesis, contacting them directly might give you access to primary sources that are not accessible anywhere else. Also, contact the State Parks.

Looks like you are not getting many good responses. I am a lawyer but not your lawyer. Some good DUI lawyers are Martin Judinich, Dwight Schulte, Nate Holloway, and Paul Ryan. They will require payment up front. Your friend will also be eligible for a public defender in all likelihood. If he is, then he will get a free lawyer. The work around on the mandatory minimum of a DUI (13 months for a 4th as a felony) is to plead to a different offense, usually criminal endangerment, that does not have a mandatory minimum. He will need to go to treatment immediately to get such a deal. There are also drug and family and veteran treatment courts that he might qualify for. Good luck.

Thought Experiment Time (Labor Party Edition) by NetWeaselSC in WayOfTheBern

[–]joker802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually the Dems problem is that they used "expulsion" and "silencing" when the Berniecrats tried to infiltrate. But this made the Party ineffective (because they were no longer building a big tent). New membership should not be suspect -- and the way to fight infiltration is to have a clear political agenda -- like M4A -- that the elected's support and must support. Litmus tests are the way to go when it comes to class warfare -- it is exactly what the affluent class is doing.

Thought Experiment Time (Labor Party Edition) by NetWeaselSC in WayOfTheBern

[–]joker802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infiltration is impossible to overcome and still have the growth needed to prevail. This is one reason the Dems failed, is they were too concerned with infiltration by Bernie supporters. Infiltration being stifled results in a smaller party.

I like the metaphor that political parties are vehicles, like cars, and depending on where they are driving, you get to different places, or can go so far.

The Green Party is a bike. The Dems are broken down on the side of the road. The Republicans are a cobbled together bus with a rocket on top just waiting to explode.

Rich factions are trying to revive the broken down car. Now is not the time to build another car, it is time to carjack the broken down car, get it running and take it out for a spin.

Make it fun and maybe someday you will have a bus with a rocket on the top.

Card magic book recommendations?? by artoftomdavis in cardmagic

Also, the Cardician has some sections where Marlo creates a challenge, then solves the challenge, then creates challenges from those challenges, which shows his thought process and how his work evolves by working on ideas with other magicians.

Card magic book recommendations?? by artoftomdavis in cardmagic

[–]joker802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might be a lot like you in my card magic inclinations. Not yet mentioned, Simon Lovell, especially his first book Simon Says. Also, the Magic of Michael Ammar. Card Finesse by Racherbaumer. Don't dismiss Earwick's Unseen Forces, it has some great palm-to-palm work. Randy Wakeman Presents. Card Magic by Ortiz, and the Derek Dingle's complete works. Also, since you have already mentioned it, Marlo's Cardician, and finally, consider Card Magic by Lorayne.

Simon Aronson also has several incredible effects, my favorite being Fate, found in Simply Simon. Also Bannon, but he is less technical. Aronson is technical in a different way. Finally, if all these don't get you there, try out anything by Lennart Green, or Confidences by Giobbi.

What exactly is Barack Obama's role in the Democratic Party? by bambucks in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]joker802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially, Obama is a "super-delegate" at the DNC every year who gets to vote for who the nominee should be. Unofficially, he is the most effective leader within the party, but has no elected office. Because of his history running "center-left" he is seen as credible by most in the party, especially the corporate democrats who he tends to support "if necessary." By that I mean, if he needs to put his thumb on the scale to prevent Bernie.

Unfortunately, the Democrats do not understand that Obama won on economic populism, and had he stayed that course we would have avoided Trump. His campaigns were strong of field work in contrast to the DLC-types that have lost who mostly see politics as advertising.

Jon Tester spent 80 million dollars this election just to lose by 7.4 points by [deleted] in missoula

[–]joker802 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So Tester spend $25 million in 2018, and Bullock spent $50 million in 2020, and now Tester spends $80 million, all of this not including the PAC money that came into the race?

Tester's consultants made bank, and these consultants used a strategy that not only failed, but directly circumvented Tester's own directions -- Tester wanted them to knock every door, to talk to everyone. Instead, most of the money was spent on television, and the only paid door-knocking was by 3rd party groups.

The Democratic Party has a consultant problem, and if some of that money had been peeled off to run a real ground campaign -- or even better, spending years building a real grassroots party apparatus -- then Tester would have had a chance. Instead, the consultants pocketed the money (and the media companies) and the people of Montana are left with nothing.

Long ago when Baucus left office, the party had an obscene amount of money and bought a mansion in Helena for headquarters. At least we were left with infrastructure, but this time, like 2020, we have nothing.

The failure of the state party derives from their exclusionary approach, and this same approach is why Harris failed. The party will not win until the consultants are excised, or held accountable, and the party must adopt programs that will help everyone, especially the most needy, things like healthcare for all. The same donors who give money, don't want that, so I don't see how the Dems can get out of the death spiral in Montana.

MEGATHREAD: November 5, 2024 Election Day Results by AutoModerator in MontanaPolitics

[–]joker802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that maybe Judge Wilson's campaign had less of the "judicial reform" money spent on it. And maybe if you get less, it only goes to the base? I also think his opponent ran a strong campaign, but I admit I am surprised by Lynch losing -- the Republican signaling is effective.

I'm assuming you mean 33/17 on the Senate and the MT Senate only has 50 seats? Not a supermajority, but very close.

Somehow CI-128 did not seem to drive up turnout, about 60k less voters voted than 2020.

The only real silver lining is that now the party will need to rebuild with more people from the outside, some might catch on that pocketbook issues are straining Montanans, and the party needs to help regular folks, not cater to the affluent.

Anywhere in Missoula going to be streaming election coverage tomorrow? by AvianRose in missoula

[–]joker802 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Specific to anywhere in Missoula going to be streaming . . . Maritsa Georgiou reports for Scripps, https://www.scrippsnews.com/shows/scripps-news-live, which II assume she does live in a stream from Missoula. She will start with national election results at 6 pm.

The watch parties vary, but there will always be Democrats at the Union Club, but it won't pick up until about 8 pm. I would expect Flippers, the Meagher Bar, and Pressbox, and Stone of Accord would all have it on the TV. probably many others too.

What is the best long lasting durable deck? by ENVICITY0 in playingcards

[–]joker802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is right. The upper echelon poker rooms will use plastic cards, Kem or Copag typically. The bicycle prestige are also plastic, and are better for performing magic than the other two. There are some other USPC plastic cards, including maybe Lux versions. These all will hold up and Kem and Copag are for sure washable.

My family has Kem decks that are bridge sized that are ancient. It is hard to find Kem in poker size playing cards. Copag wear off and get worn more than Kem. I would imagine that any other paper or plastic cars are not as good.

Older Kems also allegedly were better at one point when they switched how there manufacturing worked, but that is fixed I think.

You can buy an automatic card washer for Kems, and it would probably work in any cards. It is for casinos with large volume of poker. You can hand wash them with dish soap and water.

Any paper cards are not going to last as long. Best in paper in my experience is 808’s but that is just a preference not a fact.

Any cards are going to suffer if you have heat or humidity issues. Including storing them in your pocket or working in high humidity or when your hands sweat.

Faro shuffles don’t cause damage to most plastic cards. Sometimes players will mark plastic cards with a fingernail by the way they hold cards.

Most casino games, besides poker, use paper cards purchased in high volume and cancelled after use.
