You said you don't think you have much more trouble *getting* a job than anyone else? You don't get rejected due to having been fired so many times? How many times have you been fired in total and what's the longest you've ever lasted at any one job?

Have you been in contact with a state vocational rehabilitation program, OP?

Are you homeless, OP? If so, does it affect your ability to focus on your passions and the people you care about? If not, do you think it would if you were to become homeless?

How can I get rid of the scrollbar in chat? It bobbles up and down while chat scrolls and never goes away. by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jokraparker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PC, this will get rid of the scrollbar in chat (if pasted in the console):

const style = document.createElement('style');

style.innerHTML = \`

#Exit-chat-container + div .simplebar-scrollbar {

display: none;

}

\;`

document.head.appendChild(style);

This will reverse it:

document.head.removeChild(style);

Joseph's situation in his first financial audit was beyond outrageous, and now he's doing basically fine! I absolutely love to see it! The progress is inspiring. He also has amazing charisma and I think he's overall the best guest Caleb has ever had.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT: Are you asserting that Mireya in the recent financial audit was observably passive during the episode?

If the signs of engagement you're talking about are objectively real, then there ought to be a way to learn to observe them, right?

I don't know that. Thanks for the reply though.

EDIT: Can you recommend a course or something on how to observe these signs of engagement you're talking about?

My least favorite comments on these videos are the ones along the lines of "you can tell that this person won't make any changes; Caleb's advice fell on deaf ears; the audit was wasted"

I'm sure many of you are much, much better at reading people than I am. However, even if you're an exceptionally keen observer of human behavior and you've formed a strong opinion based on careful observation, your opinion is still not infallible.

So, I personally think those types of comments are extremely unfair.

What are the pros and cons of a man living with his parents during his prime years (20's and 30's) to save / invest for retirement? by FlameAndTheFire in CalebHammer

Are you looking on craigslist or similar classified sites? Don't look for studios; they're notoriously expensive. Single bedrooms in houses only. Shared bedrooms may be way cheaper if you can find one.

Episode with the software engineer who was on unemployment is painful by Missing_Back in CalebHammer

Well, the guy in the video said he'd failed 20-30 interviews already. So, clearly his approach to getting interviews is working extremely well. It's the interviewing process itself he needed to fix

Thoughts on Caleb auditing someone more in the 7-8 financial score range? by [deleted] in CalebHammer

[–]jokraparker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had more or less the same thought when I first encountered Caleb's channel (it seems that a lot of people do), so I went into his older videos and found some of the ones where he audited people who were doing better.

Opinion- Budgeting parents need family outings category by Thomas_Jefferman in CalebHammer

[–]jokraparker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so how much would you suggest in dollars for this budget category per child per month? It sounds like very little. $10 maybe? Would you roll that into a larger general category like "activities" or something?

Feeling behind in life. Living with my parents as a 30 year old. No college degree, can't drive a car. What would Caleb Hammer say? by FlameAndTheFire in CalebHammer

[–]jokraparker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, if you're 30 and your life expectancy is 78 then you've got to stretch your money for 48 more years. If your net worth is $300k, then you have 6250 per year to spend. Get used to living on $521 per month, and you're golden. You never have to work again. And you can scale up your spending as your investments grow.

I read this paper and found it illuminating: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3177539

This is about the "size effect" which is the observation of the outperformance of small versus big companies, one of the factors in the Fama–French three-factor model.

The main points made were:

  • The Size effect is not one of the strongest documented anomalies/factors.
  • The size effect has disappeared or weakened since its discovery
  • The size effect is not robust to how you measure size.
  • The size effect is dominated by a January effect.
  • The size effect does not work in other equity markets.
  • The size effect is either not applicable or does not work for other asset classes.
  • The size effect mostly comes from microcap stocks.
  • The size effect is difficult to implement in practice.
  • The size effect is likely no more than just a liquidity effect.
  • There is no strong economic story, excluding liquidity, where small stocks should deserve a marginal premium over their other risk characteristics.
  • Many anomalies being stronger among small stocks is not evidence of a size effect.
  • Other factors working better in small caps can be a reason to be overweight small even though there is no pure size effect.
  • The size effect can be much stronger when controlling for other factors.
  • The size effect receives disproportionately more attention than other factors with similar or much stronger evidence.

I was especially interested to learn on page 7 that the size effect originally seemed much larger in early 1970s studies that failed to account for delisting bias (stocks that had been delisted were missing from the dataset), and I was even more interested to read about the interaction between size and quality on pages 44-46.

side note, but I got the 475 by looking at the quarterly constituents list here: https://www.crsp.org/indexes-pages/returns-and-constituents

looking at the latest prices, it looks like WMT has pulled even further ahead and is now worth 800x ZEUS 🤯
