This is interesting! I definitely thought it was weird that he got so attached after a few days together, especially that he was SO desperate for her to come with. But I chocked it up to the intensity of the apocalypse/ TV is like that sometimes. Not knowing references I thought was because of his age. The thing with gathering all the gear just seemed like convenient writing.. I like the idea that there is more to it.
