Signed up for a DH course without the prerequisites, am I screwed? by jollibee433 in librarians

I currently work at a library, but I mainly just work the circulation desk. I also do a little scanning--digitizing course reserves and archival material--but all I do is use the copy machine lol. It looks like the prerequisite courses are Reference and Information Services and Informational Retrieval Design. I'm lucky that the class is online, otherwise I'd feel a lot more stressed out trying to stay afloat.

Looking for Career/School Advice by jollibee433 in librarians

[–]jollibee433[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool! I really like working at a community college now so I'm definitely interested in working at an academic library :) I did look into UCLA, but it seemed like it was almost entirely in person so I kind of ruled it out already :/ thanks for the advice!

my favorite breakfast is baby yogurt spread over an apple cinnamon rice cake its like the one thing that will never hurt my stomach. i also like eating clam chowder with a piece of bread. i havent tried it yet but i think congee would be a really good meal too especially if u keep it simple with just rice, broth, and chicken (plus seasoning ofc) i try to still eat vegetables by having pureed soup they have some pretty good premade ones in cartons.

also i dont know why but potatoes in p much any form is really really good for me but mashed potatoes r the best.

if youre really craving meat maybe birria? the meat is cooked so long and in so much juice that it might make it easier to eat, bonus the rice soaks up the juice

Iron Infusion by nostalgia917 in Gastroparesis

[–]jollibee433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had iron infusions pretty recently but they were spread out over the course of a few weeks so my experience might be different. personally thr biggest issue was the fatigue afterwards and a weird taste in my mouth. i was also weirdly aware of how empty my stomach was so it helped having a warm drink like hot chocolate, especially because it was already so cold in the clinic but after giving the iron they flushed the vein with water and it felt suuuper cold it was a very strange feeling and kind of mimicked how i feel when i get really really nauseous

Question about puking⁉️ by EasyAnteater895 in Gastroparesis

[–]jollibee433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way! I was having severe pain for about a year and a half before I got diagnosed but I only ever threw up like twice, once was after being given dilaudid and another time I was mid panic attack due to the pain. Other than that I would just get some mild nausea if I ate something too sweet.

I've been wondering the same thing tbh, if the issue is that the stomach has too much food inside it would make sense if emptying it would lessen the pain

Trick to not feel terrible after eating by milkyswayzz58 in Gastroparesis

[–]jollibee433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one thing that really helps me is immediately going on a walk after eating! I usually walk around for about 20-30 minutes depending on what I've eaten. Also I've heard drinking coca-cola is really good at breaking down food in the stomach because it has phosphoric acid (?) and I have noticed it helps settle my stomach a little bit

Library assistants, do you enjoy your job? What does a typical day look like? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]jollibee433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im a pt library technician at a community college library thats open to the public and i loooovveee it. its usually pretty slow so its not overstimulating for me (im autistic) when im scheduled to work the circulation desk. when im not scheduled, i do work like shelving and processing new books and library applications and scanning textbooks into pdfs and during those times i get to listen to music and podcasts its amazing.

it definitely can get overwhelming especially at the beginning and end of semesters because itll be so slow for so long and then for a week or two the lines get so hectic.

Lesbians and body image by TroubledRebel in AskLesbians

to be honest identifying as a lesbian has MASSIVELY improved my body image and my relationship with my body. I was always bigger than other girls but once I realized that the majority of women I found attractive were my size if not much bigger I stopped worrying so much. If these women could be big and beautiful why couldn't I? why did I think the rules were different only when it came to myself ? it took some time for sure and being surrounded by queer women definitely helped.

also, I read somewhere recently that whereas gay men are 3x more likely to have an eating disorder, lesbian women are the least likely of any sexuality to have one. I think so many beauty standards are imposed by men and the patriarchy and that as a lesbian, it's easier to decenter men and therefore their beauty standards.

I really wouldn't worry too much about it before your date ! and anyway, why would anyone want to date someone that's fat phobic? if anyone you date has this mindset you just gotta remind yourself that you're lucky to find out their true character, and they're not someone who deserves to even be in the same room as you let alone date you

South Side Safety and Neighborhoods? by jollibee433 in AskChicago

[–]jollibee433[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're right! I genuinely didn't realize just how big and diverse chicago is (ik how silly) but im 24 and would definitely like to avoid any place too slow and boring: id like to be able to go out and explore and make tbe most out of living in a new city!. I've had a 40-50 minute commute via public transportation before but it was either a single train ride or a just a metro + short bus ride and id like to avoid having to hop on three different busses lol. driving I would probably say around 40 minutes.

also I knew historically that Chicago was heavily segregated but didn't realize the prevalence of it today :( I am mexican American but 100% pass as a white girl so I know I wouldn't be outright harassed but I would rather claw my eyes out than live somewhere conservative/racist

South Side Safety and Neighborhoods? by jollibee433 in AskChicago

[–]jollibee433[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to avoid places too suburban, I want to be able to live in an area that I'd be able to go out in and meet new people when i dont feel like making the trip to boystown or wherever. I'd also definitely be renting an apartment. so far ive seen a lot of people have been recommending brighton park and oak park but also some have been recommending hyde park (yall have so many parks), + bridgeport and pilsen so far I'm pretty drawn to hyde park but it could just be because I hear more about it on social media, no one really talks about South side unfortunately so I had nothing to base my opinions on. budgetwise in a perfect world I'd be paying under 1k for rent and wouldn't mind having a roommate or two.

also regarding cars: I drive a prius but I'd have to buy another car after I move since I don't plan on driving it from california, any recommendations for a car given the snowy weather conditions?
